Job Description
Our client is seeking talented individuals to join the Enterprise Infrastructure Team in the area of storage support and storage management within their Data Centers and continuity sites. The client operates more than 500 terabytes of enterprise storage (EMC, NetApp). The client's server infrastructure is over 90% virtualized utilizing storage-based replication between the two datacenters to ensure high availability and disaster recovery.
The client's storage environment consists of two production datacenters and a third development site.
The Storage and/or Backup Engineers shall be responsible for the day-to-day management of the storage area network (SAN); shall integrate multi-vendor solutions utilizing a vendor-agnostic approach to design and implement advanced storage solutions.
The Storage Engineers will support the SAN team in managing the SAN and in the analysis, identification, and resolution of IT incidents, specifically as related to storage systems; shall monitor storage capacity, perform forecasting, and administer the NetApp clustered data ONTAP system.
Duties include the following:
- Manage storage on the virtualization environment to minimize cost and overhead of virtualization storage.
- Administer, configure, and deploy all backup and recovery solutions for the SAN.
- Assign and initialize online storage volumes.
- Manage thresholds and data archives.
- Provide online storage compaction within production processing schedules.
- Using tools, monitor and measure efficiency of online storage access.
- Tune the online storage.
- Take corrective action as needed to maximize service.
- Backup production systems and development systems to backup media.
- Follow the backup and recovery policy.
- Monitor backup jobs and provide periodic Backup Reports to the client.
- Restore data from backup media.
- Process, manage, and resolve all event, warning, alert, alarm messages of backup jobs and schedules.
- Provide proactive storage capacity management to meet client requirements.
- Install, configure, maintain, and support SAN.
- Monitor and control storage performance.
- Maintain and improve storage resource efficiency.
- Provide multiple tiered centralized storage options.
- Manage file transfers and other data movement activities.
- Decommission storage and backup environment.
- Test end-to-end system recovery process and remediate flaws.
- Recover files, file systems, or other data required from backup media.
- Provide periodic reports with details.
- Provide Backup Data replication to the COOP site.
- Implement replication functionality and configuration to minimize bandwidth requirements.
- Ensure daily and weekly replication is completed within required offsite time requirements for all in-scope sites.
- Manage and monitor ticket queue.
The Storage and Backup Storage Engineers will be assigned to the first shift; will be expected to participate in an on-call rotation; will be expected to support night and weekend maintenance activities; shall be expected to provide emergency response support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year within a 2-hour response.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent work experience.
- Must have a minimum of 8 years of experience providing enterprise backup and recovery solutions for a storage area network specializing in NetApp and EMC storage.
- Must have experience working with multiple vendor solutions, such as Symantec NetBackup, Veritas Storage Foundation, and CommVault Simpana.
- Must possess a Symantec Certified Professional (SCP) Certification or equivalent.
- Experience with maintenance and restore VM “backups” and Veritas Netbackup.
- Strong ability to automate routine tasks through the use of scripts.
- Have proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Have knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
- Experienced in tracking work/trouble issues with ticketing systems (e.g., ITSM, Service Now).
- Have recent experience managing on a Windows Server Team in a Federal Agency of approximately 4,500 users in multiple geographically dispersed locations in the US.
- Must have experience working with Clustered Data ONTAP software.
- Must possess a NetApp Certified Data Administrator Certification or equivalent.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with Microsoft Azure, Office 365, and other online services a plus.
- Experience supporting VMWare virtualized systems hosted on NetApp and EMC storage a plus.
- Experience supporting server infrastructure replicated between geographically dispersed data centers and protected with HA/COOP planning and technologies.
Additional Information
This is a 6-month contract to hire opportunity. The client's program has been funded for 10 years. Ideal start date is mid-June of 2016.
