Job Summary
As a thought leader and strategic advisor to executive leadership, the Executive Director of Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) will identify opportunities and lead the execution of transactions and growth initiatives that align with UCSF Health’s strategic plan. Reporting to the Chief Partnerships & Growth Officer, this role involves overseeing the identification, evaluation, and execution of mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships. This leader will conduct thorough due diligence, financial analysis, and negotiation processes to ensure transactions align with strategic objectives and financial targets.
In addition to building and nurturing strong relationships with new and existing clients within relevant industry segments, this role requires expertise in healthcare mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships. Strong analytical, negotiation, and implementation skills are essential. Responsibilities also include identifying and influencing potential customers to generate new business opportunities and collaborating with a network of strategic alliance partners to identify joint business opportunities that increase customer value and drive revenue growth.
The Executive Director of M&A will contribute to long-term business development, network development, and affiliation strategies. This includes leading M&A and strategic growth initiatives, formulating network growth and portfolio diversification strategies, conducting financial and market due diligence, and providing sourcing and execution support. This role will involve active participation in various partnership and joint venture boards, including serving as a member and/or on committees, contributing to strategic decision-making, and ensuring partnership/joint venture alignment with UCSF Health's goals and values. The Executive Director will act as a liaison between the partnership/joint venture boards and UCSF Health's executive leadership, ensuring clear communication and strategic alignment. Close collaboration with executive leadership is essential to drive growth, expand market presence, and improve access to care.
Participates with senior management in developing the financial, programmatic, and operational long term strategies for business development, network development, and affiliation activities for the medical center and / or health system.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $179,800 - $436,400 (Annual Rate).

Required Qualifications
- Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in business and/or healthcare strategic planning, transaction advisory services, consulting, business development, finance, and/or investment banking
- Demonstrated experience leading the due diligence, analysis, negotiation, and contracts for mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships.
- Experience in joint venture design and mergers and acquisitions.
- Strong ability to direct, influence and motivate staff, project team members, clinicians and senior leaders. Proven ability to plan and direct cross-functional teams achieving performance goals.
- Highly advanced quantitative and qualitative analytical skills. Advanced conceptual skills; strong knowledge of economics, finance and accounting.
- Highly advanced verbal and written communication, facilitation, and presentation skills including the ability to positively interact with executives, providers, and staff at all levels.
- Highly self-motivated, committed and responsible, with a demonstrated ability to manage conflicting priorities and requests.
- High standards of professional and ethical conduct.
- Expert ability to achieve measurable results in a diverse stakeholder landscape balancing competing and conflicting interests.
- Knowledge and ability to serve as an expert and educational resource on healthcare strategy issues.
- Excitement and eagerness to pursue new challenges, the drive and ability to learn quickly, embracing of change as an opportunity to evolve, and the versatility to succeed in almost any environment.

- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, health administration and /or equivalent experience / training; or Master’s degree in business, finance, health administration and /or equivalent experience / training.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong world view with understanding of the implications of the Affordable Care Act, changes in reimbursement incentives and resulting changes in the delivery system.
