Senior Tax Manager (Direct Tax) to join our Tax&Customs team in Houston, Texas.
Your role in our team
In this position you will be responsible for managing and overseeing the income tax matters of Neste group companies in the Americas, including tax reporting, tax compliance, tax planning and tax controversy. The main geographical scope and focus is on the United States, but you may have responsibilities related to direct taxes all over the Americas. In addition to income tax, responsibilities include overseeing property tax. In this role, you will:
- Collaborate as a member of Neste Group’s global Direct Tax team and participate in the Group’s global and regional income tax and transfer pricing matters and initiatives.
- Manage and control income tax reporting and tax accounting processes.
- Manage income tax compliance processes, including managing the preparation and filing of all federal, state and local level tax returns.
- Manage tax controversy and tax audits on federal and state level.
- Manage and control the application and implementation of tax credits and incentives.
- Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations, make recommendations on potential impacts to the company and coordinate the implementation of any relevant decisions, guidelines or legislation changes in income tax processes.
- Provide oversight and advice on the interpretation of income tax rules.
- Contribute to business projects and advise on the direct tax implications of new business initiatives, including scenario planning and making applicable recommendations.
- Provide instructions and in-house tax trainings.
- Manage and maintain good relationships with tax authorities, external tax service providers and other partners.
- Manage and oversee property tax processes with the assistance of tax service providers.
You will work closely with several internal stakeholders, tax service providers and tax authorities. You will be part of a global team and report to the Head of Direct Tax based in Finland. In the US, you will work in close cooperation with the local finance team.

The best combination to succeed in this role
- Degree in Taxation, Accounting or related field.
- Minimum of 10 to 15 years of relevant experience from tax consultancy, in-house tax function and/or authority side.
- Strong knowledge of corporate income tax and federal and state tax laws and regulations.
- Self-leadership skills, independent time management and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills combined with a can-do attitude and development mindset.
- Team player flexibility and capability to cooperate to achieve the common goal.
- Project management skills.
- Good negotiation and communication skills.
