About the Director of Design:
PayIt is looking for a Director of Design to join our dynamic product and design organization. You will help to shape direction and strategy for our innovative platform which empowers government organizations and agencies to streamline their operations, enhance citizen services, and drive digital transformation. This individual will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our product offerings and scaling our design approach as we continue our growth trajectory.
The ideal candidate will be located in Kansas City; however, highly qualified remote candidates in the following markets will also be considered: (AR, AZ, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, NC, NE, NH, NJ, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI).
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Lead and manage all product design talent, prioritization, and design craft to product and expand our lead in consumer-grade govtech experiences for our users.
- Contribute to the strategic planning cycles by collaborating with revenue teams, operations, customer success and engineering to assess cross-partner value, scope of effort, and priority to deliver meaningful, reusable and differentiated capabilities.
- Use customer research and KPIs to analyze the impact of design updates, along with a culture of hypothesis-driven experimentation to continually improve our offerings.
- Collaborate with product management, sales, marketing, partners, and support to deliver compelling product direction, workshops, and collaboration to accelerate the design feedback loop.
- Stay current on emerging methodologies, industry best practices, and challenges relevant to state and local government, and incorporate them in design direction and prioritization as appropriate.
- Help the business expand our North American footprint, by supporting distributed product teams and building PayIt's design presence and impact.
What You’ll Need to Have:
- Strong leadership, design expertise and emotional intelligence.
- Significant experience building and managing high performing design teams, attracting and growing top talent.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to define a design vision that aligns with company direction and translate into detailed and actionable plans.
- Advanced experience with user-centered design principles applied through design ownership of a company’s product footprint.
- Demonstrated ability to scale a quality design team, lead and advocate for transformative change through organic growth and acquisition.
- Clear understanding of cross-functional capacity planning utilizing a combination of comprehensive and more agile design approaches where needed.
- Passion for innovation, technology, and making a positive impact in the public sector.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use data-driven insights to inform design decisions.
Bonus points for:
- Experience designing payments products and understanding of the payments ecosystem.
- Experience designing products in the govtech space.
- Experience managing design managers.
