Ferraro Foods of New York East, LLC - Director of Operations - MELVILLE, New York
The position of Director of Operations is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act and shall not be entitled to overtime compensation for hours worked in excess of 40 in any one work week. The Director of Operations will help drive change, lead the warehouse, inventory control, and transportation functions of the operations, must be willing to take ownership and dedicate the time needed to complete departmental and company-wide objectives, and be part of the long-term growth of the company. The Director of Operations shall be accountable to, and supervised by, the General Manager.
Essential Job Functions:
- Site Leadership: The Director of Operations will have responsibility for overall site management across the warehouse, inventory control, transportation, and maintenance for safety, people, quality, and cost.
- Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Planning and Directing: Establish long-term operations objectives that are aligned with business goals. Develop and execute a strategic plan for the operations department. Integrate the separate activities of shipping, receiving, transportation, purchasing, and sales by discussing with each function accountabilities and interdependence in achieving company goals.
- Profitable Operations: Plan, organize, direct, and control the course of operations by integrating and coordinating operations functions and processes with business goals. Maintain profitable operations by controlling inventory, losses, accidents, and safety. Seek synergies and best practices to develop and implement new methods to improve productivity or improve customer service.
- Safety and Compliance: Guide operations management in compliance with government and other regulatory agency guidelines and laws and Company programs. Implement programs to ensure overall safety, security, maintenance, and ergonomics for the operations functions.
- Personnel and Company Policy: Delegate responsibility to managers to accomplish productivity goals. Enforce company/distribution center policies on safety and employee discipline by following guidelines, communicating changes to the workforce, and overseeing work and performance of warehouse, inventory control, transportation, and maintenance associates. Create performance improvement plans, administer discipline, and identify training opportunities when appropriate.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelors degree in business administration, logistics, or a related field and/or 5+ years of related work experience.
- Able to meet fixed deadlines and manage under pressure.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent leadership, negotiation, and organizational skills.
- Capacity to communicate intimately with others.
- Ability to motivate transport and warehouse staff members.
- Capability to handle shifting and multiple priorities efficiently and effectively.
- Must have sturdy problem-solving skills.
- Strong computer skills inclusive of Microsoft Excel, WMS, TMS, etc.
