We are looking for an experienced energy underwriting leader to drive our ambition of supporting our clients as they transition to cleaner and greener energy technologies. Whilst the Energy Transition and the classification / taxonomy is still evolving, our Energy Transition team will support alternative fuel, carbon capture and renewable energy operations that contribute towards a more sustainable energy future.
As Head of Energy Transition, you will develop and drive the core underwriting strategic direction and product profitability for the Americas. This role is considered both a technical and customer-facing position, working together with internal clients and meeting with key brokers to grow and support the unit's underwriting and marketing strategies. You will work closely with the Global Head of Energy Transition and Regional CUO to achieve the financial objectives and will be responsible for all underwriting operations including pricing, policy and guidelines. Additionally, you will work closely with other business line leaders, including, claims, actuary and finance.

What will your essential responsibilities include?
- In partnership with the Global Head of Energy Transition and Chief Underwriting Officer Construction and Energy Transition, you will be responsible for developing an annual business plan that is consistent with AXA XL’s overall underwriting strategies and objectives.
- Development and successful execution of a strategy that drives profitable growth in the segment by delivering on all four of our strategic drivers: solutions that matter most, valued beyond the policy, data that deepens relationships and focused, fit & fast.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify and capitalize on business opportunities within the energy transition sector.
- Identify new market coverage opportunities in energy transition, including price assessments, in growth areas in the region. Drive excellence engagement with these new markets and the industry stakeholders.
- Build and maintain robust relationships with clients, brokers, and partners within the energy transition sector.
- Stay current with industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks related to energy transition, and adapt insurance strategies accordingly.
- Support product management and innovation by developing analytical rigor, capabilities and processes that will enable the team to achieve their growth and profitability targets.
- Through regular communication, discuss meeting underwriting excellence objectives through audits and loss activity consistent within AXA XL.
- Assist in producer relationships and maintaining visibility in the market: Working with the underwriting managers and distribution to achieve cross selling objectives and develop marketing strategies; Developing new business opportunities via extensive broker and insured relationships; Supporting customer retention.
- Mentoring and coaching the underwriting team and develop a succession plan.
You will report to Chief Underwriting Officer – Construction & Energy Transition.
We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
- Outstanding knowledge of the Americas insurance industry, combined with in-depth technical knowledge of Energy product offerings.
- Proven business acumen to engage colleagues in how the needs of our customers are met through our vision, strategy, and operational plans.Demonstrated end-to-end strategy design including demonstrated development of business plans using data and analytics.
- Demonstrated ability to embrace challenges, learn from failures and continuously improve in a fast-paced environment
- Proven track record of quickly adapting to new technologies and methodologies in the renewable energy field
- Robust desire to explore new ideas, ask questions, and seek out innovative solutions to complex problems
- A leader who anticipates customer and market trends in order to position AXA XL as a responsible and innovative “market shaper” and Thought Leader in the industry.
- Sound understanding of financial planning, analysis and reporting approaches
- Consistently pursue opportunities to differentiate AXA XL in the industry through our offerings and how we conduct business.

The U.S. pay range for this position is USD 177,500 - 279,500. Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual’s skills, experience, and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues’ pay.
