ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides overall direction to the Boston distribution center operations assuring that each area operates effectively and that all activities are coordinated and work collaboratively.
- Manages the receipt of donated goods from the attended donations centers, municipal recycling centers, centralized stores, corporate donors, and a variety of other sources. Moves them into processing in a timely and efficient manner.
- Directs the processing of donated goods with the objective of obtaining maximum value while limiting production costs. For textiles this includes sorting, hanging and pin tagging items to established standards. For wares it involves sorting to standards. For corporate donations this involves processing in accordance with the requirements of the contributing vendor.
- Oversees the daily distribution of goods to stores in accordance with allocation levels set collaboratively with the Senior Director of Stores. Coordinates any additional allocations or shortfalls with the Senior Director of Stores.
- Coordinates with Mission Services on the assignment and oversight of the labor hours provided by paid trainees and interns. Works to maximize the effective engagement of paid trainees and interns.
- Schedules and oversees the daily operation of the transportation provided by Goodwill staff using Goodwill trucks. Coordinates with Senior Director of Donated Goods on the use of contracted trucking.
- Manages after-market sales and trash disposal on a day to day basis to maximize revenue and minimize costs. This includes the outlet, salvage, recycling and trash.
- Operates the outlet to achieve revenue goals and maximize the sale of product.
- Manages day to day salvage sales using established vendors and set payment terms. May recommend additional vendors and payment terms to the Vice President of Retail and CFO for joint approval.
- Assures the proper disposal of hazardous material in a timely and safe manner.
- Recycles goods to the extent possible and identifies alternate uses for products that have not sold in order to minimize trash.
- Uses space and storage in the distribution center efficiently and operate with a clearly defined floor plan that is consistently monitored and reset to standards .
- Develops and manages the plan for storage of goods in order to maintain a steady flow to stores throughout the year despite seasonal variations in donations and does so in a timely and cost effective manner.
- Manages the purchase and inventory of supplies such as gaylords, pallets, hangers, pin tags, pin tag guns, and baling wire. Manages inventory of certain store supplies such as shopping bags and snow removal supplies and equipment.
- Assure regular performance maintenance on Distribution Center equipment including baler, belts, forklifts, tilt tables, and trash compactor.
- Ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations and standards including the U.S. Department of Labor, the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- A minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in a related position with at least three (3) years of staff supervision.
- Experience in managing trucking and distribution logistics.
- Ability to lead a team and promote a team environment working effectively to achieve goals.
- Strong financial and contract management skills.
- Proven management skills; demonstrated effectiveness in accomplishing work by delegating as well as by personal contribution; ability to hire, coach and develop staff; experience managing change.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- A passion for helping individuals to achieve independence and dignity through work.
- Must possess a valid MA Driver’s License, current automobile insurance and ability to travel throughout Massachusetts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
- Satisfactory results of all required background checks according to Goodwill policy.
- OSHA certification for forklift and safety training a plus.
