What You Will Do
Johnson Controls is seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead a team of engineers in the development of embedded control and user experience equipment for our Data Center HVAC equipment. This role requires a background in software engineering, Agile methodologies, and equipment controls. The engineering manager and their team will focus on HVAC equipment and applications within data centers environments. The ideal candidate will have a passion for leadership, innovation, and delivering high-quality solutions. This position will be onsite located in our New Freedom, PA, JADEC facility. Candidates must be commutable distance, or able/willing to relocate.

How You Will Do It
- Lead, mentor, and manage a global team of embedded software, controls, and test engineers.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide coaching and professional development opportunities.
- Manage the full development lifecycle for products, from planning to deployment.
- Create and deploy an Agile methodologies process to plan, execute, and monitor projects, ensuring timely delivery.
- Maintain standard workflow processes to manage workload within the team. Ensure transparency of process and performance.
- Collaborate with global engineering teams on technology and best practices.
- Ensure the implementation of best practices and industry standards in engineering development.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to gather requirements and define project objectives.
- Communicate project status, risks, and outcomes to senior management and other key stakeholders.
- Develop technology roadmaps and perform technology reviews with contributions from the global team.
- Establish and maintain rigorous testing and validation processes to ensure software reliability and performance.
- Initiate continuous improvement to reduce cycle time and increase product quality and performance.
- Stay current with advancements in embedded systems, HVAC technology, and data center requirements.
What we look for
Required
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10+ years of experience in embedded software development, and experience with Linux-based systems.
- Extensive knowledge and experience with Agile methodologies.
- Leadership and strong attention to detail is essential to be successful.
- Knowledge of secure software development best practices.
- Proven experience in a leadership or managerial role, preferably managing teams of 10-30 engineers.
- Strong planning and forecasting skills. Ability to lead a team with a high degree of integrity and trust.
- The ability to work on multiple simultaneous programs that support strategic JCI initiatives.
Preferred
- Experience with HVAC systems and data center environments.
