Position Description
As a member of the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAWCTSD) Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E) Group, you will work as part of a highly motivated and collaborative engineering team in support of the Warfighter. This position will provide engineering support for several USN Training programs.
Duties/Responsibilities
- You will advise on, administer, or perform professional, scientific, or technical work concerned with Software Engineering on training systems, which covers any portion of the designing, developing, programming, debugging, documenting, maintenance, management, and security of software. Recommend familiarity with multiple programming languages.
- You provide cybersecurity support for training systems by reviewing and determining the applicability of DoD/Navy Cybersecurity directives, Task Orders, STIGs and IAVA/IAVMs, and assess, prioritize, and mitigate vulnerabilities on applicable training systems.
- You will support the USN initiative to increase Live, Virtual, Constructive (LVC) Training objectives by providing integration and testing, trainer configuration, troubleshooting and customer support, and technical feedback to resource sponsors.
- As a journey-level engineer/scientist, you may collaborate with other team members to work on varied, complex equipment systems and subsystems associated with research, innovation, or reengineering assignments and demonstrate competence and creativity in developing new concepts and possible new uses of hardware/software.
- You provide technically sound advice and guidance to managers, supervisors, peers, and sponsors on specific technical aspects of training systems or concept development.
Additional Desired Experience
- Applicants must meet the following Basic Education Requirements of the Department of Defense Qualification Standard for Engineer/Scientist Positions:
- Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study or specific course requirements generally as stated in paragraph A in the individual occupational requirements OPM qualification standard AND
1 year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least DP-3 (or comparable GS grades). Specialized Experience is experience that equips you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
This position is under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Engineering Career Field - Level II is required. If you are not certified, you must achieve certification within 24 months of appointment.
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security secret clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
