The Senior Manager of Engineering, Workplace Tech, leads a team of infrastructure engineers and oversees the infrastructure operations support for Penumbra employees. This includes implementation and operations management and support of a hybrid infrastructure environment spanning on-premises data centers, private and public cloud services. Defines and develops technical architecture, designs, and standards; provides level three engineering support for complex and recurring issues; provides technical vision and thought leadership regarding long-term deployments of infrastructure and cloud technologies.
What You'll Work On
- Develop a high-performance team to support and enhance IT Infrastructure and Operations Services with clear and concise goals and objectives.
- Select, manage, train, and develop team members. Establish objectives and assignments and provide ongoing feedback through performance reviews and development plans.
- Maintain a 3-year infrastructure plan supporting current technologies while remaining current on upcoming technologies and trends to prepare the organization for future upgrades.
- Engage the applications and business teams to understand upcoming features and coordinate infrastructure activities to support effective delivery and timeliness of the associated solutions.
- Develop and maintain infrastructure services policies, standards, and procedures.
- Develop, monitor, report on, and assess Enterprise Operations platforms, programs, and services, including the development of a forecast for capacity and consolidation/cost reduction opportunities.
- Establish an enterprise-level monitoring and visibility platform to proactively identify and remediate performance and capacity issues and reduce the MTTR.
- Manage the security of the core infrastructure, including Network, Office 365, Microsoft Windows, SQL, and cloud applications technical components.
- Build tools for IT Operations to enhance production triage and improve time to detect issues. Identify opportunities to automate tasks and maintain operational tools. Troubleshoot and resolve issues escalated by internal customers, external partners, critical systems, including implementing and deploying emergency fixes.
- Enable the team to take charge of outages, lead calls until they are resolved, and ensure the root cause has been found and fixed, while closing the case as the lead on an Incident Review.
- Plan and design infrastructure projects and proactively monitor their progress, resolving issues and initiating appropriate corrective action.
- Define program governance arrangements, ensuring quality and overall integrity of the infrastructure, focusing inwardly on internal consistency and outwardly on its coherence and interfaces with other programs and corporate, technical, and specialist standards.
- Ensure the delivery of new products and services, coordinating resource management across various internal teams and external teams.
- Manage communications and project outcomes, applying best practices in change management and user experience management.
- Provide regular program level status reports to senior management.
- Adhere to the Company’s Quality Management System (QMS) as well as domestic and global quality system regulations, standards, and procedures.
- Understand relevant security, privacy, and compliance principles and adhere to the regulations, standards, and procedures that are applicable to the Company.
- Ensure other members of the department follow the QMS, regulations, standards, and procedures.
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field with 10+ years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 10+ years’ experience managing IT infrastructure, security, or network environments is preferred.
- Proven experience leading a global infrastructure engineering team, managing both people and technology.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, problems, and issues.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. Ability to effectively deal with ambiguity and assignments that require strategic thinking with minimal direction.
- Strong program/project management skills; PMP certification a plus.
- Strong hands-on experience in deploying and managing highly available and reliable WIFI, LAN, WAN, VPN, and Network security technology solutions.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Server Stack, Linux, Azure, Office 365, and VMware.
- Experience in managing cloud infrastructure and security with an Architect level certification is a PLUS.
- Experience in implementing Infrastructure as Code, Configuration management, DevOps, and other automation is desired.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Proficient in engaging with senior management or executive levels on functional, divisional, and customer-related matters.
- Demonstrates the ability to influence others' perspectives or gain acceptance without compromising relationships.
Working Conditions
- General office environment. Business travel from 0% - 10%. Potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Requires some lifting and moving of up to 25 pounds. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms, and to use a computer, sitting for extended periods. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to read, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Compensation
- Starting Base Salary is $184,060/year - $225,000/year.
- Individual compensation will vary over time based on factors such as performance, skill level, competencies, work location, and shift.
