BAE Systems FAST Labs Microelectronics product line develops advanced electronics and delivers the mission-critical microelectronics our warfighters depend upon. Within the product line, the Microelectronics Science and Technology (MS&T) area architects and develops novel and beyond-next-generation integrated circuits and chipsets across a multitude of microelectronics fabrication technologies in silicon, SiGe, GaN, GaAs, and experimental processes. With continuing growth, the Microelectronics product line is seeking a Technical Area Director (TAD) to lead, direct, and manage the expanding MS&T portfolio, and drive this research and development portfolio's strategy.
The candidate for this TAD position is responsible for a portfolio of programs across multiple technical thrusts. They will lead a team of Technology Group Leads with contributions from technologists, scientists, engineers, and program managers. The TAD will drive the holistic business and technical strategy for the MS&T Technical Area with an entrepreneurial vision for game-changing microelectronics technology relevant to national security applications.
The MS&T TAD is expected to leverage their position, reputation, and expertise to maintain and expand relationships with government R&D organizations such as the Department of Commerce, ONR, AFRL, OUSD(R&E), OUSD(A&S), DARPA, etc. Through their internal and external network and their leadership expertise, the candidate is expected to advance the Microelectronics Science and Technology roadmaps while maintaining alignment across the broader Microelectronics Product Line and end-user stakeholders.
This job can be hybrid (on-site >=50% of time) or fully on-site.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a team of personnel and a portfolio of programs, ensuring alignment with FAST Labs cultural guiding principles.
- Develop and execute the portfolio strategy to grow externally-funded R&D pipeline while transitioning maturing technologies to the production Product Areas of the Microelectronics product line.
- Execute and grow the portfolio of programs with a multi-disciplinary, distributed, cross-functional team, with program values ranging from $1-50M.
- Align external customer goals with internal business expectations for successful delivery of business salients.
- Manage Technology Group Leads, each leading their own technology thrusts within the portfolio.
- Mentor and grow junior technology development managers and scientists.
- Expand and maintain strategic relationships with government agencies, external companies, and other BAE Systems groups and business areas.
This position can be based out of our Merrimack, NH; Nashua, NH; Burlington, MA; or Lexington, MA facilities, and will require collaboration with staff across our business areas and facilities in the Northeast.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with experience presenting technical research to large and diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to lead a diverse, and complex organization across multiple sites to solve complex technical problems.
- Experience leading the proposal, capture, and execution of large complex projects within the defense microelectronics community, at the cutting edge of technology.
- Demonstrated collaboration across organizations to achieve objectives.
- Experience developing and executing all facets of a portfolio strategy.
- Understanding of cutting-edge microelectronics technology, including technical trends across the research community and DoD's microelectronics science and technology customer base.
- Understanding of BAE Systems electronics markets and customers.
- Proven performance in management, mentoring, and coaching.
- Ability to obtain clearance at the DoD Top Secret / SCI level.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills:
- Masters or PhD in electrical engineering or related field.
Pay Information:
Full-Time Salary Range: $164,000 - $278,800. Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
