What you will be doing
This is a position within the Legal Department that is held by a lawyer with strong legal skills, particularly related to internal investigations, and the ability to deliver business-oriented, effective and efficient legal services, project management, and strategic counseling on significant projects or matters for defined business or corporate clients for which he or she has overall responsibility (e.g., a discrete group within one of Cencora’s business units or corporate functions) or in a particular specialty practice area (e.g., employment and labor law).
This position is based in our Conshohocken, PA office.
- The lawyer in this role will lead Cencora’s Legal Investigations program, including complex internal investigations into allegations of violations of Cencora’s policies and Code of Conduct.
- The lawyer in this role will be expected to develop and evolve Cencora’s investigations framework, reporting structure, process, and procedures in coordination with HR, Compliance, Regulatory, and Legal partners.
- The lawyer in this role will develop and train cross-functional colleagues who conduct investigations on the process and appropriate management of an internal investigation, including identifying whether and when to conduct investigations under attorney-client privilege.
- The lawyer in this role will drive the evolution of investigations reporting to executive leadership and the Board of Directors: develop dashboards to display reporting and investigations metrics, analyze trends, benchmark progress, and distill insights.
- The lawyer in this role will direct confidential and/or privileged investigations of varied complexity and scope and provide legal advice for remediation of issues.
- The lawyer in this role will provide legal advice to HR, Compliance, and Regulatory partners on interpretation of organizational and implementation of remediation following an investigation, which may include modifying policies, enhanced training, coaching, or monitoring.
- The lawyer in this role will lead and serve as the Legal Shared Services delegate to the Cencora and AH Compliance Committees.
- The lawyer in this role will support litigation teams as necessary, including advising on government requests and inquiries that may have an internal investigations component.
- The lawyer in this role may have management responsibility for one or more legal professionals and, if so, is required to be an effective manager of his or her reports.
- In this role, the lawyer is required to be adept at handling significant legal projects, matters, and issues and should have very good to excellent technical legal skills and expertise.
- The lawyer in this role should have very good to excellent project management skills because the Assistant General Counsel role often requires the lawyer in this role to take on mixed legal and business responsibility for, and project management of, contracts or other matters that the client group wants to pursue.
- The Assistant General Counsel should have strong decision-making capability and should be proficient in being able to make business-oriented yet legally compliant recommendations to his or her clients.
- The lawyer in this role should be able to juggle multiple matters and effectively multi-task and prioritize tasks to ensure that work is completed in a timely and efficient manner.
What your background should look like
- The lawyer in this role is expected to have a minimum of 9 years of experience as a lawyer combined with expertise in one or more specialty areas of legal practice (e.g., employment and labor law). The lawyer in this role should have substantial experience conducting, assisting with, or overseeing internal investigations.
- Law Degree - must be a graduate of an accredited law school and admitted into the state bar.
- The lawyer in this role is comparable to a counsel, non-equity partner, or service partner in a law firm and is a lawyer who can do sophisticated work as an individual contributor and/or supervise and project manage other individual legal professionals or teams of legal professionals to do the work.
- Substantial, diverse legal experience including prosecutorial or governmental regulatory experience and/or internal investigations experience at a top law firm or as in-house counsel.
- Strong organizational and operational skills and can efficiently manage multiple cross-functional investigations and processes.
- Ability to empower your business partners while working collaboratively to achieve cross-functional goals within a matrixed environment.
- Ability to leverage technology to streamline processes, communication and workflows.
- A proven track record of risk identification, assessment, and mitigation.
- Strong communication skills to interact with senior leadership and stakeholders.
- Expertise and background to be comfortable supervising outside lawyers engaged to work on matters for Cencora, including outside lawyers from major law firms used by Cencora.
- In this role, the lawyer is expected to be knowledgeable in Cencora’s business and industry policies, practices and trends and be aware of the competitive landscape.
