Vice President, Human Resources

Join Samaritan Medical Center, an accredited not-for-profit healthcare organization, as you take on the role of Vice President of Human Resources in historic Watertown, New York!
The Position
- The Vice President of Human Resources (VP HR) at Samaritan Medical Center is a critically important member of the senior management team and reports directly to the President and Chief Executive Officer. The VP HR is responsible for the development, recommendation and implementation of a Strategic Human Resources Plan to meet the present and future human resources needs of the Samaritan system.
- The VP HR provides strategic leadership in the areas of Employee Engagement, Talent Acquisition and management, Organizational Effectiveness, HR Operations, Leadership Learning and Development, Total Rewards and Employee Health. This leader will oversee a team of four direct reports and 25 FTEs.
- The Vice President will manage the transition to a unified HRIS (Workday), streamlining processes by consolidating multiple systems into one. This leader will also support leadership in enhancing recruitment and retention strategies, working to reduce reliance on external staffing across the organization.
- This role also involves significant responsibility around managing labor relations, leading negotiations when required, and resolving union-related issues. Moreover, this leader will collaborate with junior leaders, mentoring and educating them on effective approaches to employee relations, coaching on appropriate discipline methods, conducting critical conversations, and establishing performance metrics.
- The ideal candidate is a goal-oriented, hands-on leader who requires minimal supervision. They should be an expert in human resources and have an executive presence. A commitment to understanding and valuing people is crucial, and they should inspire others to recognize this importance as well.
- This position requires full-time onsite work; remote work is not an option.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
- A minimum of ten years of progressive administrative management experience in a hospital setting, with at least five years at the Director level. Prior experience as a Vice President is preferred. Union experience is highly desirable.
- SHRM Certified Professional or equivalent certifications are preferred.

- Samaritan Medical Center is the region’s largest hospital and employs approximately 2,000+ employees and physicians. Samaritan is devoted to giving back to their community and is active in multiple church groups, Boy/Girl Scout Clubs, and several non-for-profit agencies.
- The organization encompasses Samaritan Keep Home, a 272-bed long-term care facility and Samaritan Summit Village, a 288-bed long-term care and assistant living facility. These facilities offer a full range of skilled nursing services including rehabilitation therapies, social services, and recreational activities.

- Watertown, New York, is a quaint city located within the Northern region of New York, approximately 70 miles north of Syracuse and approximately 30 miles south of Canada.
- The area is home to over 30 local eateries and pubs offering a wide array of culinary experiences. You can find comfort food at Shorty’s, Italian cuisine at Cavallario’s, or a steak from Sboro’s.
- Watertown also provides multiple shopping locations including the Salmon Run Mall, the Downtown Public Square which offers multiple locally owned shops and boutiques, and Paddock Arcade, one of the oldest covered shopping malls in the country.
- Watertown offers a wide variety of outdoor activities including boating, fishing, rafting, hiking, skiing, and camping at attractions such as Thompson Park, Black River, and Dry Hill Ski Area. Watertown also offers multiple golf courses and a historic downtown offering attractions including the Flower Memorial Library and Jefferson County Historical Society Museum.
