Job Description - Anesthesia Technician I- per diem Waltham (3307326)
Under the general direction of the Medical Director/Site Chief and the Lead Anesthesia Tech, the incumbent follows the day-to-day operations for all anesthetizing locations at the Mass General Danvers, responsible for maintaining Anesthesia machinery, equipment and inventory. Performs first-level repairs and troubleshoots Anesthesia equipment, assists, as appropriate, Anesthesia clinical staff with patient care and provides for a safe, orderly and clean OR environment.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Cleans, decontaminates, services, re-stocks and sets-up anesthesia machines, including CO 2 , blood pressure and pediatric equipment (is knowledgeable in choice of latter, based on ages and weights of children), between cases and provides additional equipment as required (monitors, ventilators, humidifiers, etc.).
Maintains stock levels in work and induction rooms and on anesthesia carts. Maintains and services anesthesia oxygen and gas cylinders and regulators.
Delivers defective equipment to Bio-Med. Performs all other related duties assigned by the Manager of Anesthesia Supply and Technicians and is able to respond appropriately to emergency situations.
Education:
High school diploma required. Associate degree preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology required.
Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations:
American Society of Anesthesia Technicians / Technologists (ASATT) certification preferred; Basic Life Support certification required within six months of employment.
Experience
Must possess exceptional organizational skills and flexibility to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Must demonstrate acumen for attention to detail. Must exercise appropriate judgment as necessary and possess strong problem-solving skills. Know all vascular assess systems used in Anesthesia department practice.
- Interpersonal requirements:
Requires strong interpersonal skills. Must possess ability to work in a hospital environment closely with and effectively with a variety of professional staff (e.g., physicians, CRNAs and nurses). Must work cooperatively as part of a team as well as independently. Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.
3. Technical requirements:
Demonstrates knowledge of basic patient care principles. Has knowledge of HIPAA, Confidentiality and Privacy Policies. Required to understand and demonstrate understanding of MGH emergency protocols. Has knowledge of sterile technique and can participate in activities requiring this skill without contamination.
Fast paced, high volume, 8 operating rooms which 2 OR rooms are used for Endo procedures. High stress working conditions including shifting priorities and tight schedules and emergency surgery. Exposure to blood and secretions on contaminated equipment, needles, medications and patients with undiagnosed diseases.
Must be able to remain on feet and for extended periods of time. Must be able to push and pull heavy equipment and lift up to fifty pounds
