The Annapolis Opera Company is seeking a Development Director to lead the organization’s fundraising activities.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position is a distinctive opportunity for a fundraising professional to become part of our vibrant organization and add to its energized and expanded artistic initiatives. These initiatives are strategically designed to not only foster new connections but also enhance and strengthen relationships with existing donors.
The Development Director reports to the General Director and works closely with the Board of Trustees, and the Artistic and Music Director, focusing efforts related to fundraising, cultivation, and stewardship.
The Development Director must be well organized, self-directed, detail-oriented, and have excellent writing and people skills.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Create and implement coherent development and stewardship strategies including annual fundraising and ensure key goals are met. Emphasis on developing relationships with current and lapsed donors, prospects, subscribers, foundations, and corporations.
- Manage direct mail appeals seeking individual contributions and matching corporate gifts.
- Conduct prospect research, maintain donor files, and ensure proper administration of donor benefits through effective database management.
- Design and manage fundraising events that enhance the visibility of the organization in the community.
- Provide effective reporting on development goals and results for the General Director, the board, and the development committee including projections, potential action planning, evaluation, and analysis.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum of 2 years of direct fundraising experience and proven success in building fundraising strategies.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and at ease speaking convincingly to donors.
- Strong problem-solving, research, and analytical skills.
- Comfortable using office technologies and CRM systems.
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Experience in the performing arts field is a plus.
This position is full time. Salary negotiable.
