About The Job
Dudek is seeking a Project Engineer with three to five years of experience in water resources (surface water) engineering. This position provides planning and design support as part of a project team for surface water drainage and stormwater quality projects, predominantly focused on infrastructure-related planning and design. The ideal candidate would be an EIT or professional engineer with 3+ years of experience in surface water-related civil engineering. This position will be based out of our Liberty Station or Encinitas locations.
Water resources professionals at Dudek work on innovative and relevant projects, frequently in a cross-discipline environment. Dudek offers a broad opportunity for personal growth based on an individual’s own performance and initiative.
Duties and Responsibilities (may include some or all of the below):
- Site design including grading and utility coordination and design;
- Storm water hydrology and hydraulics calculations and modeling;
- Storm water quality analysis, modeling and best management practice (BMP) design;
- Stormwater permitting and regulatory compliance;
- Preparation of plans, specifications and estimates;
- Technical document preparation.
Minimum Requirements
- 3-5 years of relevant experience;
- BS in civil or environmental engineering;
- Strong technical writing and communication skills;
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification;
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have active personal automobile liability insurance by the first day of employment.
* As a federal contractor, successful candidates are required to pass the following pre-employment requirements prior to beginning employment: pre-employment drug test and background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- PE preferred;
- Technical understanding of grading and site civil design;
- Technical understanding of stormwater hydrology, hydraulics, and storm drain design;
- Technical understanding of stormwater management requirements related to California municipal, industrial, and construction National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) programs;
- Technical understanding of stormwater BMP design and performance;
- Experience with modeling and design software including: ArcGIS, AES/CIVILD, HEC-RAS, FLO-2D, SWMM, and AutoCAD.
Physical Requirements
Working Conditions:
- This job operates in a remote or office-based environment and this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, etc.
- This job requires occasional project site visits based outdoors which can include excessive noise, uneven walking surfaces, extreme weather, moving vehicles, and equipment.
Physical Requirements:
- This job requires working on a computer, sitting or standing for long periods of time in an office or remote office setting.
- This job requires attending meetings, both in person and virtually, as well as speaking on the phone with peers, clients, etc. Speaking, hearing, and listening are required.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Proposed Salary Range: $79,000-$97,000 hourly*
*Final agreed upon compensation will be based on a variety of factors including but not limited to an individual’s related experience, education, certifications, skills, and work location.
