ERM is seeking a hands-on Consultant, Planner in our Walnut Creek, California office to support the domestic Capital Project Delivery service area. In this role, you will focus on supporting land use permitting, regulatory compliance, energy siting, and California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) projects for power and renewables clients based primarily in the western US. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- With appropriate guidance and supervision, provide creative and fit-for-purpose technical analyses in your own field of specialization and support additional analyses outside of their areas of specialization working collaboratively with SMEs in other fields and with other technical backgrounds.
- Provide technical consulting support for environmental permitting, land use permitting, and compliance associated with development projects including power generation, electrical transmission, and renewable energy projects, with an emphasis on NEPA, Clean Water Act Sections 401/404, Endangered Species Act, and equivalent state/local regulations.
- Contribute to preparing impact assessment deliverables. Perform project delivery activities such as report writing, undertaking and organizing data collection and survey field work, data and literature review, and development of recommendations for clients.
- Collaborate with other practitioners and SMEs from multiple offices around the organization to execute impact assessment projects including environmental impact assessment, land planning, facility siting & permitting, and risk assessment.
- Complete work assignments in accordance with ERM's management system, format and quality standards.
- Work within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments.
- Interact directly with clients and their SMEs on matters related to permitting and environmental resources.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelors and/or Masters degree in environmental science/engineering, planning, biology/ecology, or similar field.
- 2+ years of impact assessment and environmental or land use permitting experience.
- Consulting experience is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience providing land use permitting, environmental analysis, and critical issues analysis support for renewable energy or other development projects.
- Technical competence and broad knowledge of land use and zoning, with a solid grasp of the key impact assessment and management issues within the energy sector.
- General understanding of renewable energy development process.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience writing comprehensive technical reports and standards.
- Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed.
For the Consultant, Planner position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $71,764 – $86,700 USD. An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. This job is also eligible for an annual discretionary based performance bonus.
