Company DescriptionSince we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together.
So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality through Afterpay, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.
Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.
Job DescriptionWe’re looking for an inspiring lead iOS Engineer to join Square’s Catalog and Inventory Mobile team. As a member of the team, you will play a critical role in developing stock and catalog management solutions that meet Square’s sellers wherever they are, whether that be in a warehouse taking deliveries or on the shop floor responding to changing stock in real-time. As both a product and platform team, we balance building out the architecture and features that aim to serve or extend to all of Square’s diverse vertical specific catalog and inventory management needs in an experience that feels catered to their industry’s contexts.
As a staff engineer on the Catalog and Inventory Mobile team, you will collaborate closely with server engineers to support time-sensitive inventory management operations in real-time that are highly consistent across sales channels. You will also guide peers across vertical specific Inventory teams to unblock or accelerate efforts to drive more advanced stock management features based on our shared inventory platform. You’ll also work alongside cross-functional Product and Design partners to align our technical architecture against features that we’ll build that deliver an elegant inventory user experience for Square sellers across the world.
You will:- Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of critical Catalog and Inventory features.
- Represent the team in architectural discussions and stakeholder conversations, serving as a bridge between our team and the broader organization.
- Collaborate with other lead iOS engineers across Square to identify bottlenecks and pain points in developer experience and platform health across domains and plan initiatives to support a reliable, performant and maintainable platform.
- Help shape the future of our codebase by building flexible, extendable, and reusable components.
- Foster a culture of engineering excellence and mentor engineers of all experience levels.
- Hold yourself and your teammates to the highest standard of engineering excellence, with unwavering attention to product reliability.
- Work with product managers, designers, and data scientists to shape the future of order management at Square.
- Help contribute to a culture of positivity, psychological safety, and inclusivity within the team.
QualificationsYou have:- 12+ years of iOS software engineering experience, developing scalable production software and an excellent command of engineering fundamentals.
- Proficiency in Swift and/or Objective-C.
- Proficiency in native iOS development using standard tools and frameworks.
- Experience working in complex technical projects, e.g. cross-team programs.
- An ability to lead and mentor software engineers to deliver solutions while fostering growth.
- A passion for building mobile products at all levels – from the low-level architectural decisions to the individual pixels.
- A desire to build products that our merchants will depend on every day to run their business.
- Empathy for your customers and colleagues.
Technologies we use and teach:- Swift, Combine, Core Data along with Swift Concurrency for iOS development.
- Application architecture based on Square’s modern open source library, Workflow.
- UI built with Square’s modern declarative UI framework, Blueprint.
