The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Medical Assistant (MA) provides professional, compassionate, appropriate and individualized routine care, observes patients’ health, assists practitioners and registered nurses, and communicates instructions to patients regarding medication, treatment, home-based care, and preventative lifestyle changes.
JOB DUTIES:
- Obtain and record patient medical histories, vitals, test results and other information for medical records
- Deliver compassionate support, attention and assistance to patients and families
- Ensure compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA
- Monitor patients throughout their treatment
- Perform routine checks of patients’ vital signs
- Ensure that patients take their medication
- Liaise with patients’ families
- In some settings:
- Assure patient chart completeness, records changes and Medicare reports with 98% accuracy
- Order supplies based on department needs
- Complete reports in a timely and accurate manner
- Assist with patient set-up and clean up
- Assist with maintaining orderliness of department
- Prepares necessary documentation and charting for patients
- Greet patients and visitors
- Maintain confidentiality of all information according to HIPAA and company policy

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Analytical ability to apply criteria and evaluate information to make decisions
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; and excellent interpersonal skills in teaming with patients, medical staff and the public
- Detail oriented with proven ability to multitask
- Professional appearance and ease in developing rapport with others
- Understanding of patient care, medical terminology, coding procedures, reference tools, and appropriate clinical pharmacology for medical assistant scope
- Knowledgeable in policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care
- Knowledgeable of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment
- Knowledgeable with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; familiar with electronic medical health care record systems
- Ability to maintain quality control standards
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program, required
- Current LPN licensure with the State of Kansas, required
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program, required
- Current Medical Assistant certification with the State of Kansas, required
- BLS, required
- 1-2 years’ experience in a healthcare setting, preferred
