Machine Learning Engineer II

Our mission is to partner with our Machine Learning Science counterparts to use AI/ML to collaboratively transform Expedia’s data assets into intelligent and real-time insights to support a variety of applications which are used by 1000+ market managers, analysts, our supply partners, and our travelers. Our work spans across a variety of datasets and ML models and across a diverse technology stack ranging from Spark, SageMaker, Airflow, Databricks, Kubernetes, AWS and much more!
What You’ll Do
- Work in a cross-functional team of Machine Learning engineers and Machine Learning Scientists to design, code and deploy large scale batch and real-time ML solutions.
- Deploy models (including in-house LLM's) into production in a scalable manner for both batch and live inference use cases.
- Prototype creative solutions quickly by developing minimum viable products and work with seniors and peers in crafting and implementing the technical vision of the team.
- Communicate and work with geographically distributed cross functional teams.
- Participate in code reviews to assess overall code quality.
- Resolve problems and roadblocks as they occur with peers and help unblock junior members of the team.
- Define, develop, and maintain artifacts like technical design or partner documentation.
- Participate in user story creation in collaboration with the team.
- Support and troubleshoot data and/or system issues as needed.
What You'll NOT Do
- Data Cleaning, Training/Fine-tuning, experiment and evaluate ML models from scratch.
Who You Are
- Degree in software engineering, computer science or a similar field.
- Comfortable programming in Python, Java and Scala.
- Have experience in Big Data technologies, in particular Hive and Spark.
- Experience of using cloud services (e.g., AWS).
- Experience working with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
- Passionate about learning, especially in Machine Learning.
Nice To Have
- A high-level understanding Machine learning pipelines.
- Experience with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow.
- Familiar in building real-time streaming applications, preferably in Spark.
- Familiar with workflow management tools (e.g., Airflow).
- Familiar with the e-commerce or travel industry.
The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $112,000.00 to $156,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $179,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.
Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
