The Role
We have an opening for a Corporate Development Partner on our Bio + Health Operating Team. The Corporate Development function advises portfolio companies on financing strategy and structure, supports execution of private capital raises (equity and debt), and provides insights on public capital markets (including IPO planning).
The role will focus on health technology portfolio companies and investors, plus provide select support to bio portfolio companies from a financing strategy and public capital markets perspective. In this role you will work most closely with the Corporate and Business Development team, the Health-focused members of the Investing Team, and a16z portfolio company founders. The primary function of this role is to provide significant and sustained value to: (i) the a16z portfolio companies, (ii) the Bio + Health Corporate and Business Development team, and (iii) the broader a16z team through cross-functional collaboration.

Bio + Health Portfolio Companies
- Support the development of strategy and execution across equity and debt capital including assisting with financing strategy, positioning the Company, investor targeting, use of proceeds, deal structuring and negotiations, valuation/returns analyses, and IPO planning
- Focus on health technology portfolio companies, plus provide select support to bio portfolio companies from a financing strategy and public capital markets perspective
- Contribute to, expand and nurture a16z’s downstream investor relationships and make ongoing connections and insights across our portfolio
Team & Cross-Functional Operations
- Nurture investor relationships across biotech and healthcare, with priority on health technology investors
- Collaborate with the Corporate Development and Health Investing Teams to develop and manage a prioritized set of relationships and tracking system for downstream health technology investors
- Coordinate and maintain relationships with external service providers (including investment banking advisory, ECM and research functions, debt providers and other banking services)
- Provide a public markets perspective and perform, valuation, comparables and returns analyses to inform a16z strategy and distribution decisions around a16z public holdings
- Build and disseminate within a16z and to relevant portfolio companies a “market view” of industry and financing trends, emphasizing implications for our health technology portfolio companies
- Lead projects related to a16z firm-level priorities and initiatives, including portfolio analyses, valuations, and fund structuring
Minimum Qualifications
- 8+ years corporate finance experience in the health technology industry
- Strong preference for investor relations and equity capital markets experience in investment banking or related advisory roles
- Potential opportunity for candidates with healthcare technology focused operating roles where capital raising was a strong focus
- Experience and understanding of the public equity capital markets and related financial analyses / decision-making
- Ability to build and cultivate long-term relationships
- Positive attitude, good instincts and self-motivation
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cross-functionally across various operational groups
- Ability to quickly build trust with other team members as well as entrepreneurs and broader capital/strategic networks
- Demonstrated personal and professional achievement
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and take initiative on creative projects
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or technical field preferred but not required
The anticipated salary range for this role is between $331,000-$386,000, actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.
This role is eligible to participate in the a16z Carry program and various discretionary bonus programs as well as benefit and perquisite plans including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401K plan, vacation, and sick leave.
