What you will be doing:
We are looking for a savvy, passionate Director of Product Development who is excited about launching new products in the beauty sector! This position will be essential in supervising the entire launch process from concept to launch, owning the day-to-day development activities for all new products from the innovation calendar that meet the overall strategy for the Helen of Troy liquids brands.
- Responsible for kicking off the conceptualization phase of the product development process, writing concepts to briefs and completing all support materials and presentations, with innovative claims to support each and every new launch.
- Strong product and brand focus ensuring the uniqueness of the product experience delivers upon the brand strategy. Work with marketing on the positioning to support strong, powerful claims, ensuring the formula contains all activities needed to make the claims.
- Work with legal and regulatory on crafting robust clinical testing plans, driving the completion of all support materials to marketing for them to build their assets and help drive product success.
- Drives and supervises the creation of the formulas and the day-to-day product development process as the key lead cross functionally, sourcing high quality and efficacious on-trend and clean raw materials.
- Lead contract manufacturers, select quality prototypes, evaluate submissions based on target costs and claims, ensure successful pilot and production to meet all requirements for consistency throughout scaleup and signs-off.
- Advises the daily functions of packaging development from brief and sizing based off competitive analysis, championing corporate efforts to support social and environmental responsibility, evaluating packaging submissions, timing and delivery functionality.
- Builds COG’s sheets for margin and MSRP analysis and align on packaging selection.
- Manages outside vendors, supervising timely launches, signs off on specs. Builds packaging testing plan to ensure evaluation, functionality and line trial to production are successful.
- Leads a conscious effort to continuously improve projects to ensure initiatives align with strategy.
- Works with regulatory to ensure compliance, Integrated National Crime Information System and labeling requirements are met.
- Works with Research and Development on detailed development for reformulations, troubleshooting to resolve formulation challenges and stability and safety tests.
- Works with Quality to establish parameters and maintain meticulous quality control to consistently produce high quality products.
- Works closely with Marketing in each step of the development process such as informed status updates, sample feedback, aligning on communication, partnering with them on delivering on unmet needs, reviewing copy and education materials to ensure accuracy of product as it was intended.
- Works with Supply Chain as a strategic partner in delivering the product on time through production and into the warehouse.
Skills needed to be successful in this role:
- Proven track record of prioritizing and identifying when assistance is needed and seek help from appropriate parties.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as problem solving abilities.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to switch between projects without sacrificing quality and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Proactive and self-motivated individual with a passion for product development in beauty, and the personal care industry, staying up to date with industry trends.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 10+ years in the personal care industry within product development
- Experience working with contract manufacturers and packaging suppliers.
- 30-50% travel
- Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
