Position Title: Director of Programs

Salary Range: $92,000 - $102,000

Position Description:

The Director of Programs at The Washington Center provides leadership and supervision to the Programs team who manage and facilitate a host of integral TWC short and long-term programs. The Director of Programs will leverage a deep understanding of learning, experience design, program management, and workforce readiness to refine, improve, and innovate existing programs. In addition, the Director will collaborate with a cross functional group to design and implement new programs. The Director will guide a team of Program Managers responsible for delivering programs and advising participants, and will oversee programmatic activities, events, and sessions. In addition, the Director will manage and provide regular training and development opportunities for staff and will support staff through their program implementation and management processes.

The Washington Center is a remote/hybrid organization with most employees working on average one day per week in TWC’s Residential and Academic Facility, conveniently located near Union Station and public transportation in the NoMa neighborhood of Washington, DC. Given the nature of the Director of Programs role at The Washington Center, the individual in this role is expected to reside in the greater Washington, DC metropolitan area and likely will be in the office during programs more than one day per week.

JOB FUNCTION

Program Direction and Management

Manage the implementation and delivery of multiple TWC Internship and short-term programs by ensuring a high-quality participant experience.
Direct and supervise Program Managers as they design all program activities, sessions, events, learning opportunities, assignments and other program components.
Collaborate with the Office of Employer Relations to ensure a seamless transition into internships and short-term programs.
Collaborate with other participant-facing departments to deliver an integrated participant experience that focuses on career and workforce readiness, participant support, community building, and when applicable, immersion in Washington DC.
Supervise program and internship-related conduct issues in collaboration with the Directors of Employer Relations and Housing and Community Life.
Work with program coordinator to manage all aspects of academic options including evening courses, learning outcomes objectives, and academic rigor, as well as relevant fit with the needs of our partner campuses, course delivery, and logistics.
Ensure the incorporation of concepts of diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as other key organizational values, into program delivery, planning, and execution.

Assessment and Evaluation

Collaborate with the Executive Director of Workforce Readiness and Senior Manager of Innovation to report on program outcomes in alignment with TWC’s strategic assessments plan.
Utilize all available data to ensure quality delivery of all programs and program components. Make appropriate program revisions based on collected data and best practices.
Continuously evaluate program policies and protocols, and make proper revisions based on best practices and participant feedback.

Staff Management and Development

Supervise Assistant Director of Programs, Program Managers and the Program Coordinator responsible for delivering and supporting programs.
Oversee the training and development of the Programs team members through continuous education, training, and retreats on topics such as: workforce trends and strategies, supporting participants from marginalized backgrounds, and advising techniques.
Take on additional duties on behalf of the Executive Director of Workforce Readiness and Programs as needed.

Required Education and Experiencean equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered:

Master’s degree in a related field
5-7 years of experience in working with college students, experiential learning, career development/readiness, workforce development, college-to-career pipelines or other related fields
At least 3-5 years of program management and or project management experience
Experience with managing and leading a high-functioning team required

Preferred Education/Qualifications and Experience:

Learning Management System experience is preferred
Experience working with early career talent, workforce development and/or internship programs is preferred
Experience and/or program design is preferred
