PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. The successful resident will demonstrate a desire to learn, sincere interest in the profession, and dedication to achieving all outcomes of the residency.

This program cultivates the skills of practice management and education and the professional attitudes of self-evaluation, self-improvement, and accountability.

Indiana University Arnett Hospital is a 191-bed community hospital located in Lafayette, Indiana. Indiana University Arnett Hospital opened in 2008 and is part of the largest health system in Indiana. Several highlights of Indiana University Arnett include a medical residency program, level 3 trauma center, cardiothoracic/orthopedic and neurovascular service lines, and maternal child health services. IU Health Arnett PGY1 Residency Completion Requirements include:

Obtain Indiana Pharmacist Licensure within 90 days of hire
Earn an “Achieved for Residency” status on 90% of all PGY1 Residency Objectives
Complete and present a Residency Research Project (Great Lakes Pharmacy Resident Conference or other audience designated by RPD)
Complete and submit a formal manuscript detailing the completed Residency Project to RPD
Complete requirements of teaching certificate program via the Indiana Pharmacy Teaching Certificate (IPTeC) Program collaboration between Butler and Purdue University faculty
Obtain or maintain certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Complete a Medication Use Evaluation Project
Complete one rotation in all core areas

Core Rotations include:

Orientation (4-5 weeks)
Ambulatory Care (4-6 weeks)
Administration (4-6 weeks)
Infectious Disease (4-6 weeks)
Critical Care (4-6 weeks)
Internal Medicine (4-6 weeks)
Advanced Internal Medicine (4-6 weeks)
Clinical Staffing/Distribution Longitudinal (11 months)
Medication Use Evaluation (6 month longitudinal experience)
Presentations and Teaching Program (11 month longitudinal experience; two-day conference in August followed by completion of yearlong teaching portfolio)

Candidates must hold a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy and be eligible for licensure in Indiana.
