We are looking for a Firewall Specialist local to the National Capital Region, who can engage our Department of State client to collaborate with the project team members and client stakeholders to design implement, manage and maintain network firewalls to protect the Department of State’s network from unauthorized access. In this role, the candidate will configure firewall rules, monitoring network traffic, troubleshoot issues, stay updated on security threats, and collaborate with other security teams to respond to incidents; This role will require expertise in various firewall technologies and strong knowledge of network security protocols supporting multiple projects within and in support of the Department of State ICAM initiative.
What You Will Do:
Perform a variety of ICAM and ZTA system firewall configuration and management.
Implement and maintain firewall rules based on security policies, defining access controls for network traffic.
Configure firewall features like port filtering, application control, intrusion prevention and VPNS
Monitor firewall logs for suspicious activity and potential security breaches.
Perform regular firewall audits and vulnerability assessments. Analyze network traffic patterns to identify potential security risks.
Implement network segmentation strategies to isolate sensitive data.
Evaluate new security technologies and recommend updates to the firewall infrastructure.

What You Will Need:
An ACTIVE and MAINTAINED SECRET Federal or DoD security clearance
Bachelor's Degree
THREE (3) or more years of relevant experience working with Firewalls
Experience with cybersecurity policies, requirements, and compliance.
Proficient in managing various firewall platforms (e.g., Cisco ASA, Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet).
Deep understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, etc.)
Knowledge of security best practices and industry standards
Maintain comprehensive documentation of firewall configurations and security policies.
Generate reports on firewall activity and security posture for stakeholders.
What Would Be Nice To Have:
Awareness of NIST Special Publications 800-63-3, FIPS 201-2, and HSPD-12
Understanding of key IT/Cybersecurity concepts (Network Security, Security Operations & Administration, Incident Response & Recovery, Identity and Access Management, Vulnerability Management etc.
Familiarity with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
Awareness with Cloud Services in the Federal sector (Google Apps, Amazon Web Services, etc.)
Ability to support multiple activities and take the lead if necessary.
Ability to apply a variety of problem-solving techniques to resolve issues.
The annual salary range for this position is $109,100.00-$163,700.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
