Summary
The Assistant Director is a professional nurse who manages the daily operations of a department(s) with the Director of Nursing to provide services for patients while meeting quality, legal, organizational and medical staff goals. The Assistant Director is responsible for supporting the Director of Nursing by promoting the efficient operations to provide effective nursing care of a designated department(s). The Assistant Director co-manages the department and works independently under the guidance of the Director of Nursing. The Assistant Director ensures compliance with regulatory agencies, The Joint Commission and the Nurse Practice Act and promotes optimum health care delivery within budgetary guidelines.
The Assistant Director demonstrates competence in the planning of care for the patient by providing leadership and organization of the day-to-day operations by working cooperatively with ancillary services and the interdisciplinary team. This Assistant Director partners with the Director of Nursing and is responsible for department(s) on a 24 hour basis, and serves as a consultant with the patient's home nursing facility, nursing staff and physicians.
Qualification
Minimum Education
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
• Bachelor's degree required (in nursing preferred)
Required Licenses/Certifications
• Current state or compact nursing license, BSN required or enrolled within 6 months
• BCLS
• Any other certifications staff nurses in area managed are required
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
• Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge and skills
• Ability to use computer driven patient care equipment
