Client: Publicly Traded Real Estate Firm
Role: Director of Accounting
Salary: $150,000 - $160,000/annually + Bonus
Location: Manhattan, New York (4 days a week in office)
Position Overview
The Director of Accounting will play a pivotal role in overseeing the financial operations of the company. This individual will be responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with GAAP and SEC regulations, and the development of sound accounting policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting:
- Oversee the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, in accordance with GAAP and SEC regulations.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data.
- Coordinate the annual audit process with external auditors.
- Accounting Policies and Procedures:
- Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies and procedures that align with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Review and analyze financial data to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary changes.
- Internal Controls:
- Establish and maintain a strong internal control environment to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Conduct regular internal audits to assess the effectiveness of internal controls.
- Tax Compliance:
- Manage the company's tax compliance obligations, including federal, state, and local taxes.
- Coordinate with tax advisors to ensure accurate and timely tax filings.
- Team Management:
- Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals.
- Recruit, hire, and train qualified accounting staff.
- Provide ongoing professional development opportunities for team members.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- CPA certification preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and SEC regulations.
- Experience in the real estate industry preferred.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to lead and manage a team.
