Accounting Manager
Quick-Way, Inc. is a family owned company located in Ludington, MI that has been serving its customers and community in liquid bulk transportation for over 30 years. The Accounting Manager will report directly to the President. The Accounting Manager is responsible for the Payables, Invoicing, and general reporting functions of accounting. Superior attention to detail and confidentiality are critical in this role.
COMPENSATION AND SCHEDULE
Salary (Exempt): $65,000-$85,000/Year
Standard Hours: 8:00AM-4:30PM EST Monday - Friday (30 Minute Lunch)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manages the accounting staff who are responsible for financial reporting, billing, collections, payroll, and budget preparation.
- Conducts performance evaluations on Accounting Staff.
- Knowledge of payroll and payroll best practices, including garnishments, local, state, and federal labor laws.
- Review and maintain accounts payable and accounts receivable, including contacting customers about past due accounts.
- Establishes internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions and budget preparation, reviews accounts as needed to maintain accuracy of general ledger.
- Monitor General Ledger account balances for incorrect entries, TMT transfers, errors in accrual, payroll or tax accounts as needed but no less than monthly.
- Responsible for month end adjusting journal entries, tractor depreciation calculations along with balancing the bank accounts, processing checks and online payments.
- Prepares business activity reports and annual budgets.
- Support other departments with budgeting efforts and continuous improvement in forecasting costs.
- Produces monthly financial statements, keeps spreadsheet updated each month with per mile costs and weekly updates to management as requested.
- Process and pay company retirement plan monthly.
- Audits accounts to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations; coordinates with outside auditors and provides needed information on a monthly/quarterly basis for the company.
- Verify W-2’s in ADP and process 1099’s at year end, along with filing all applicable tax forms.
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
- Manage and maintain compliance for the company’s credit card program/card connect including transactions and documentation of all Receivables paid.
- Create and maintain accurate per mile costs for expenses to quote potential lanes.
- Backup for Payroll as needed when Accounting Specialist is absent and to support on-going operations. Establish methods for accuracy in pay of hourly employees and drivers.
- Understand how to process Accounts Receivable invoices during the payroll process including driver pay in settlements and transfer into ADP.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Accounting or Finance required.
- At least five years of general accounting experience with at least two as a manager of an accounting department strongly preferred.
- Specialized training in accounting or finance.
- Experience in utilizing accounting software – Microsoft Great Plains strongly preferred.
- ADP WorkforceNow strongly preferred
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Must be proficient in or willing to learn: TMW
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Products – Word and Excel.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Physical efforts required include repetitive small motor activity, grasping, verbally communicating detailed and important information to others quickly and accurately, stooping, reaching, standing, lifting light objects less than ten pounds frequently, and may require climbing into the cab of a semi-truck occasionally.

WORKING CONDITIONS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is rarely exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. High pressured, fast-paced environment with significant telephone and personal disruption. A large number of multiple steps in a complex system performed with accuracy and speed is essential to the successful completion of tasks. Must be willing to work as part of the team to step in and assist or train when needed.
