What you'll be doing...
This opportunity is for Military personnel who are current participants of the Department of Defense Skillbridge Program or are participants of the Hiring Our Heroes Corporate Fellowship Program Cohort 1-2025.
This position will establish, maintain and enforce security objectives, key performance indicators, and procedures for the organization. Responsibilities will encompass security program management, security audits, risk assessments, crisis management, and vulnerability remediation assessments. This individual will leverage their knowledge of federal security regulations to company operations, including the preparation of procedures and outlining best practices. Additionally, this individual will engage in monitoring or auditing activities to ensure compliance with security policies and procedures. Furthermore, they will serve as a liaison to the Verizon corporate security organizations for CIO Business. In this role, this individual will be responsible for gathering intelligence to inform executive updates and provide analytics to expand Verizon's forward-thinking approach to security solutions. This position will have the responsibility to ensure the effective implementation of result-oriented solutions in the areas of cyber security and security awareness.
Additional responsibilities will include:
- Ensure that the organization's investments in cybersecurity are aligned with strategic objectives and cyber security key performance indicators.
- Manage a portfolio of imperatives, initiatives and programs aimed at improving CIO Business' cybersecurity posture.
- Serve as key contact and advisor to senior management and executives within the area of cybersecurity.
- Interact with and lead the application security mavens with day-to-day vulnerability remediation activities.
- Enforce security policies and procedures.
- Provide assistance in matters associated with internal or external-generated security issues through identification of causative factors, appropriate courses of action, foreseeing future issues, and innovating means of rendering complex and highly sensitive situations manageable.
- Assist in developing and directing resources for application-based risk assessments.
- Assist in determining vulnerabilities that would allow threats to become successful and implement continuous improvement programs to avoid risk.
- Communicate and direct effective prevention strategies ensuring appropriate controls are in place.
- Providing accurate and timely consultation and advice to CIO Business leaders regarding cyber security matters.
- Assist in conducting audits to ensure compliance with applicable security standards.
- Develop and maintain excellent relationships with peers in Verizon and business partners.
You'll need to have:
- Must be a current participant of the Department of Defense Skillbridge Program or of the Hiring our Heroes Corporate Fellowship Program Cohort 1-2025.
- Bachelor's degree or four or more years of relevant work experience.
- Experience within the cyber security discipline.
- Ability to pass federal background screening.
- Ability to adhere to a hybrid office schedule.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
- Certification in CPP, CISA, CFE, CISSP or CISM.
- Knowledge of IT network infrastructure; basic hardware and network functionality.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Proven analytical skills.
- The ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks, pay close attention to detail, be well organized, and work successfully in a fast-paced environment.
- Continually works to solve problems and improve processes.
- Proficient computer skills (Google Sheets, Docs, Slides).
- The ability to work with all levels of management.
- Working knowledge of the corporate structure and the Code of Business Conduct.
- Proficient customer service/problem resolution skills.

Where you'll be working
In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and a minimum of eight assigned office days per month that will be set by your manager.
