Job Summary of the Scientific Advisor
The translational scientist will serve as part of the Medical Affairs Scientific Communications group and will provide scientific support to marketing, sales, regulatory, clinical, and new product development. This position will be responsible for representing Medical Affairs on new product development teams, as well as providing ongoing scientific support for released products. The Translational Scientist will work in a close team environment with Sales, Marketing, R&D New Product Development, Clinical, Professional Education, and Regulatory Affairs/Quality Assurance.
Requirements of the Scientific Advisor
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree; A relevant postgraduate qualification (PhD/research-based MSc/PharmD) preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years industry experience, post-doctoral research and/or practical research/laboratory work experience is beneficial.
- Knowledge of FDA regulations for medical devices, human tissue, and biologics is beneficial.
- Experienced and knowledgeable about related pre-clinical models and evaluations.
- Skilled and experienced in experimental study design and data analysis.
- Knowledge of scientific approach and methodologies.
- Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in the area of expertise.
- Knowledge of scientific research principles, practices, and protocols.
- Ability to design, organize, and coordinate projects, especially literature reviews.
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams.
- Strong preference will be given to candidates with experience in the peripheral nerve space and to those with experience with paradigm-changing technologies.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to accurately relay a compelling value proposition for Axogen’s portfolio of nerve repair products.
- Ability to transfer knowledge to others and coach them to achieve goals.
- Pleasant, professional, and proactive self-starter who enjoys being part of a fast-moving and growing team.
- Willing and able to travel domestically, up to 30% of the time to respond to the needs of the customers and organization.

- Proficiency with MS Office Applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint is required.
Responsibilities of the Scientific Advisor
The specific duties of the Scientific Advisor include but are not limited to:
- Delivers expert scientific recommendations for the brand team by partnering with the brand managers in the planning and development of marketing materials and activities.
- Maintains current awareness of the medical and marketing teams by identifying new published data for a specific product via congresses, peer-to-peer discussions, literature alerts, and disseminating them to the teams.
- Reviews and approves promotional and non-promotional material to ensure scientific accuracy.
- Supports medical affairs projects and activities such as delivery of educational symposia, creation of sales training material, and training of sales force.
- Supports handling of product inquiries from surgeons.
- Serves as the main scientific reviewer of pre-clinical grant requests and runs the pre-clinical research grant committee.
- Responsible for clinical literature surveillance for articles related to our products and quarterly updates to the clinical bibliography.
- Responsible for Pharmacovigilance activities related to clinical literature surveillance.
- Responsible for managing awarded IIS grants.
- Responsible for assisting Regulatory with the annual CER submission.
- Responsible for the clinical literature review/SOTA creation for new products.
- Participates in the planning stage of new marketing projects providing scientific expertise and value during scoping of specific activities.
- Contributes to the development of marketing materials and activities by closely collaborating with brand managers.
- Acts as the primary “data expert” for our products; shares clinical/scientific data.
- Attends scientific meetings and congresses to enhance expertise and shares insights to support business needs.
- Provides insights about our products following peer-to-peer discussions with healthcare professionals (HCPs).
- Provides internal training for the Medical Affairs team on relevant topics.
