Position Specific Description
As a member of the Corporate Safety team, the Health and Safety Consultant will support the safety needs of our organization on both an enterprise-wide and Business Unit specific basis. This person will play a critical role in our safety program founded on culture, compliance, and education across all NextEra Energy operations. Additionally, this individual will interface regularly with OSHA to ensure compliance and address any regulatory concerns.
General Duties
- Maintain and administer the Safety Information Management System (Focus1440) database
- Manage the reporting and documentation of occupational injuries, illnesses, and near-miss incidents, including safety statistics and corporate indicators
- Analyze injury/near miss data and develop systemic prevention improvements and predictive analytics
- Develop and implement safety programs and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations and standards.
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Liaise with regulatory agencies, including regular interfacing with OSHA, ensuring compliance and effective resolution of compliance issues.
- Stay current with industry best practices, safety regulations, and technological advancements in safety management.
- Perform, review and promote use of incident investigations and root cause analysis tools
- Lead the Corporate Injury Review Team
- Lead the Vehicle Event Review Team
- Provide safety advice, guidance and consultation to the Business Units and to staff managers and employees
- Oversee our occupational nurse program
- Coordinate and promote the Safety network on Employee ShareNet
- Produce management-level reports on safety performance metrics
- Participate in and/or lead various safety projects
- Participate in assigned Joint Safety Committees, Corporate Safety Lead Team and other safety committees
- Research ad hoc safety issues
- Develop corporate safety policies and procedures
- Design and conduct safety training for all levels of employees
- Benchmark incident data and best practices against other utilities
- Respond and provide assistance to all emergency and storm situations
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years in a formal safety position
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or Industrial Hygiene
- ASP or CSP, or similar is strongly preferred
- Excellent analytical skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant safety standards and regulations.
- Project management skills
- Must be able to demonstrate a history of utilizing problem solving skills
- Previous experience with unionized environments is preferred
- Utility industry experience is preferred
- Previous OSHA interface experience is strongly preferred

- Interfaces with union through the Joint Safety Committee to bring about improvements in health and safety
- Benchmarks best practices and develops recommendations to improve health and safety programs
- Serves as a mentor to lower level consultants
- May lead a series of cross-functional projects or processes
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- High School Grad / GED
- Bachelor's or Equivalent Experience
- Experience: 6+ years
