What You Will Do
Under the direction of the Operations Leader (or designate) and Medical Director of the Heart Rhythm Device Clinic, the Cardiac Rhythm Device Technologist practices in accordance with the established standards of professional practice to facilitate optimal clinical effectiveness of implanted arrhythmia management devices through the application of technical knowledge and skills to evaluate and manage device function. Your responsibilities will include:
- Performs device analysis and programming for cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) patients during device implantation, assisting the physician and programming individual devices.
- Conducts device analysis and programming in the outpatient setting (local and outreach clinic) in consultation with Staff Electrophysiologist (or representative).
- Executes Electrocardiogram (ECG) testing, stress testing, Holter monitoring, and other diagnostic cardiac equipment techniques.
- Provides interpretations, analyses, and test/summary reports as needed.
Note: We are open to hybrid work for this position if candidates meet the requirements.
What You Bring
Education/Training:
- Graduation from a recognized program in Cardiology Technology and successful completion of the Canadian Society of Cardiology Technologist (CSCT) certification exam.
- Graduation from a recognized pacemaker program (such as the BCIT advanced certificate in Cardiac Sciences – Cardiac Rhythm Device Technology or equivalent).
- Successful completion of the Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCD) exam (through the International Board of Heart Rhythm Exam (IBHRE)) and/or two years' recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Cardiology Technologists (CSCT).
- Holds a valid BC driver’s license, as local area travel may require the use of a personal vehicle with mileage reimbursement applicable.

- Demonstrated knowledge of current techniques, methods, and procedures relevant to the role.
- Ability to integrate and evaluate data from multiple sources, problem-solve, and make effective decisions.
- Capacity to incorporate best practices and current research evidence into professional practice decisions.
- Effective communication skills with patients/residents, families, staff, and other healthcare providers, both verbally and in writing.

Your Day to Day:
- Facilitates optimal clinical effectiveness of arrhythmia management of cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIED) through technical knowledge and skills application.
- Performs various tests to evaluate device function, including determining capture and sensing thresholds, lead integrity, and safety.
- Provides urgent arrhythmia management services, including interrogation analysis and programming changes, to multiple hospital areas.
- Conducts arrhythmia device analyses and programming in the operating room (OR) or Cardiac Procedure Room, assisting physicians during implant procedures.
- Assists with arrhythmia device duties in clinic, OR, and Cardiac Procedure Room under RN direction and team collaboration.
- Analyzes devices for CIED patients as part of follow-up care, including interrogation and programming.
- Performs Cardiology Technologist duties as required, including stress testing, Holter monitoring, and electrocardiograms.
- Explains cardiac device systems to patients, monitors device function, and notifies cardiologist of abnormalities.
- Transfers and assigns ECGs for interpretation by medical staff, following organizational policy.
