Join our dedicated team of healthcare professionals in a dynamic and rewarding role as a Medical Laboratory Scientist at our Portland-based medical laboratory. This position involves performing technical procedures and ensuring the functionality of laboratory instrumentation. As part of our team, you will contribute to delivering quality patient care by conducting routine and complex tests, maintaining our high operational standards, and staying compliant with all necessary regulatory requirements. This position offers a competitive compensation depending on experience, with potential extensions beyond the initial 6-month duration.
Compensation: DOE (Depends on Experience)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
- Perform routine and complex technical procedures as per departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
- Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
- Demonstrate technical decision-making skills in testing and problem-solving.
- Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls for laboratory use.
- Report accurate and timely test results to ensure quality patient care.
- Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
- Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
- Assist with processing of specimens when needed to maintain workflow efficiency.
- Maintain a safe work environment and adhere to safety standards by wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology.
- Compliance with local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements.
- Minimum 10+ years of clinical laboratory testing experience.
- ASCP or AMT certification required.
- Availability to work night shifts, including potential weekend rotations.
- Ability to adapt to a changing schedule as needed during the training and adaptation period.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience as a Generalist in the medical laboratory setting.
- Demonstrated proficiency in a high volume laboratory environment.
- Strong aptitude for learning new technologies and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with team members and other healthcare professionals.
- Strong technical skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex laboratory instrumentation.
