Department Name: New Builds & Refurbishments
Department Summary:
The New Builds & Refurbishments Department is responsible for the design, planning, and construction of new ships for Carnival Cruise Line, as well as major refurbishment projects across the fleet. Our team plays a critical role in shaping the future of the Carnival experience, working closely with shipyards, architects, and engineers to deliver innovative and efficient ship designs. The department’s mission is to ensure that each new ship is constructed to the highest standards of safety, sustainability, and guest satisfaction, contributing directly to the company’s growth and success.
Dates:
Intern must be available to work 40 hours per week with approximate dates of January - March 2025 (8 weeks)
Internship Project Summary:
Project Title: New Ship Design & Development
Objective:
The intern will support the Newbuild team in the design and planning phases of several upcoming ships in the Carnival fleet. This project will involve analyzing General Arrangement Plans, assisting with cost analysis for value engineering with shipyards, and helping track orders for Owner Supply items. The intern’s work will be vital in ensuring that the designs meet Carnival’s standards for functionality and guest experience while staying on budget and schedule.
Essential Functions:
- Analyze General Arrangement Plans to create a database for new ship designs, focusing on sizing public spaces, back-of-house service areas, and technical systems.
- Support cost analysis for value engineering initiatives in collaboration with shipyards.
- Assist in tracking and managing documentation for ordering Owner Supply items.
- Help the Newbuild Team develop and forecast budgets for upcoming projects.
- Support the team with tracking architectural schedules and deliverables.
- Create presentations for business sponsors, internal clients, and executives on project progress and design concepts.
Specific Qualifications:
- Preferred Academic Background: Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or related field.
- Skills: Strong proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Project, Adobe Reader XI, and CAD software.
- Experience: Entry-level experience in design or project management is preferred. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail are required.
