Job Description
The Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) is an advanced generalist who directs and can provide comprehensive preventative and wellness care, as well as the spectrum of acute, episodic, chronic and end-of-life to our patients. The CNL serves as a leader, mentor and consultant to the healthcare staff; CNL demonstrates both analytical and resource for nursing and ancillary staff. As a change agent, the CNL promotes an environment that embraces knowledge, innovation and improvement. The CNL, as a member of the expanded team, promotes patient and family health education with a focus on self-management, prevention and wellness, based on the patient's goals. The CNL refines data systems to identify trends and opportunities for improvement; the CNL facilitates practices that are in compliance with Core Measures and The Joint Commission requirements. Participates on the research committee and submits work for publication. Insures that department is in compliance with all applicable policies, laws and regulations.
Education
- Masters Nursing (MSN) required, or obtain within 12 months of hire
- Extensive clinical knowledge of the patient population required
Experience
- Three years of acute care nursing for similar patient population required
- Progressive experience in healthcare including involvement in direct patient care, staff education, and problem solving required
- Educator/preceptor experience required
Certification & Licensures
- BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart 'Healthcare Provider' (HCP) - AHA approved required
- Based on primary state of residency and in accordance with current Virginia Board of Nursing Regulations, must be licensed or eligible to practice pending licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia with either a:
- Multi-state license, under the Nurse Licensure Compact OR
- Single-state license, valid in Virginia only required.
- CCRN preferred
- Clinical Leader Certification from approved CNL program certified by American Colleges of Nursing preferred
Qualifications
- Ability to identify improvement in clinical operations and implement change and willingness to challenge established ways of doing things in a constructive way required
- Ability to lead, mentor and develop staff required
- Exemplifies a strong, positive attitude toward internal and external customers, and continuous service improvement required
- Excellent conflict resolution skills required
- Ability to act in diplomatic tactful manner required
- Adept at using technology as a tool to support education required
- Ability to use quality improvement methodologies to evaluate system failures and patient safety practices required
- Ability to delegate and evaluate patient care required
