Job Summary:
The Cardiovascular Perfusionist conducts extracorporeal circulation and ensures the safe management of physiologic functions during any medical procedure in which it is necessary to artificially support or temporarily replace a patient's circulatory or respiratory functions, such as in open heart surgery or other heart procedures. The incumbent in this position will support the mission, vision, values and strategic initiatives of MWHC Health System and must demonstrate a commitment to quality service to patients, physicians, associates and the public.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Support the Cardiovascular team during medical procedures by selecting appropriate equipment and techniques to be used during procedures, in consultation with the physician.
- Administer blood products, medications and control the temperature of patients during surgery.
- Monitor equipment during surgical procedures, making adjustments as needed to ensure proper blood pressure and flow during the surgery.
- Purchase equipment and supplies as necessary.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Graduate of an accredited perfusion program required.
- ABCP Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) required OR ABCP Certification or Board Eligible, required.
- Ability to work effectively in emergency situations and under stress.
- Ability to work cooperatively/collaboratively as part of a team, developing productive working relationships with diverse groups of people.
