The Charge Nurse assumes the responsibility and accountability for the delegation and coordination of patient care, patient satisfaction, ensures staffing needs are met based on department staffing plan, and providing real-time coaching for staff development. They provide leadership to the staff by working cooperatively with the nursing staff, assuring that all necessary resources are available, that policies and procedures are followed, and regulatory requirements are met. They must be clinically knowledgeable and will perform the duties of the bedside nurse and assist with on-call coverage as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience in leadership preferred.
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
- Current RN licensure in the state of Oregon.
- Current BLS at time of hire
- Part- Time or Full-Time Status
- 2 yrs relevant clinical experience preferred
- Obtain ACLS and PALS within 6 months of hire
- Competent in rhythm identification
Essential Job Functional:
- Assists in the direct operations of the department and in collaboration with other hospital leads and charge nurses on other units.
- Ensures policies and procedures are followed and enforces Joint Commission and CMS regulations.
- Demonstrates knowledge and appropriate use of the Nursing Process for patients in the following age groups: Infants, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, and Geriatrics.
- Completes daily assignments, manages staffing needs for current shift and next shift based on patient acuity and/or staffing matrix. Ensures coverage for any staffing holes. Flexes staff based on department census and acuity level of patients in-line with department staffing plan.
- Takes ownership in coordinating efficient breaks/lunch and relief assignments.
- Assist with orientation of new staff.
- Provides real-time coaching to peers for staff development and timely feedback.
- Act as role model to staff for promoting new ideas and projects.
