03112 RN Intensive Care Unit STRHS-Lawrenceburg Job Description 12.07.22 Report to the Director, the staff RN is a professional care giver who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated time frame and provides care to those patient via therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment/instrumentation, and other healthcare team members. If assigned as charge nurse, will serve as resource for coordination of activities on the unit. Responsibilities as charge include, but not limited to, assessment of unit needs, available resources for current and oncoming shift(s) based on patient acuity, volume, individuals and family needs and special clinical procedures or interventions pending.

Essential Functions ?
Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
Documents patient care given.
Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
Demonstrates knowledge and application of the nursing process
Plans and implements patient care and teaching based on the total assessment and the age of the patient.
Develop plan of care that is individualized for the patient needs reflecting collaboration with other members of the healthcare team, the patient, and the family as appropriate.
Evaluates and documents the patient response; monitors and recognizes changes in physiological and psychosocial status; taking appropriate action based on the assessment of the patient.
Participates and cooperates in the unit-based Quality Improvement process.
Supports, maintains, and provides an environment which is supportive of quality patient care based on best practice using a holistic approach to care, and by adhering to effectively using resources and personnel.
Practices, develops, and endorses customer service skills in relationships with internal and external customers.
Serves as patient and family advocate with respect to the patient's right to privacy, autonomy, and dignity by protecting confidentiality of information.
Formulate individualized teaching and educational plan based on identified learning need and evaluate the effectiveness of learning including the patient and family as appropriate.
Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meeting, workshops and shows responsibility for own professional practice and ongoing education.
Job Requirements ?
Minimum Education Must posses a current and active Registered Nurse License in the State of Tennessee.
Required Skills Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Required Skills Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
(BLS certification may be obtained within first week of orientation before patient care)
(ACLS and PALS may be obtained within the first 3 months of hire)
Required Skills Licenses: Current and active Registered Nurse License in the State of Tennessee.
