Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum): $29.403 - $36.754 - $44.104

The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.
What You Will DoUnder the supervision of a pharmacist, provides technical knowledge, skill and expertise required for the provision of comprehensive pharmaceutical care that supports the mission, values and philosophy of Pharmacy Services and Sharp HealthCare. Position Requirement must include the ability to perform a majority of defined tasks below. All defined tasks in this job description are in addition and supplementary to those defined in the Tech I and Tech II job descriptions and presume that minimum level of competence and performance is established and maintained.
Required Qualifications- 3 Years Experience in hospital pharmacy environment.
- California Pharmacy Technician License (TCH) - CA State Board of Pharmacy - REQUIRED
Preferred Qualifications- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board - PREFERRED
Essential Functions- Billing: Must demonstrate competency in performing the basic functions of the pharmacy biller. Understand the TES edits work and establish a process to perform a timely reconciliation and billing. Must be able to perform advanced pyxis functions including adjusting PAR levels, vend to refill ratios, add/modify/delete users and oversee user management while communicating with nursing leadership, submit escalation tickets to vendors as necessary assist in the resolution of technical issues and can troubleshoot effectively.
- Daily workflow: Must demonstrate the ability to work as a narcotic pharmacy technician which entails: Meets service level expectations for the preparation and distribution of controlled substances. Demonstrates the ability to accurately oversee the daily ordering (via CSOS or 222 form). Assured duties for: 1) ordering; 2) receipt; and 3) stocking of controlled substances are segregated and controlled, and assures no discrepancies or deviations from practice standards. Performs the daily shift duties as assigned with respect to controlled substances, including but not limited to open discrepancies, inventory counts, par level management, and C2 safe compare report oversight. Is competent to perform the weekly and monthly shift duties including but not limited to proactive diversion reporting, nursing inventory auditing, and missing narcotic follow-up investigation and resolution procedures.
- General support: Must be able to perform the basic functions of the distribution work.
- IV preparation management: Must be able to demonstrate competency to perform work in the IV Room including but not limited to appropriate gowning, testing, storage, cleaning, documentation and labeling of product made in the IV room and maintain a high level of accuracy. Must undergo and successfully complete training and competency on Hazardous Medication / Chemotherapy Compounding and can work independently when called upon. Is competent in the use of Closed System Transfer Device (CSTD). Documents all appropriate and required record keeping information as it relates to compounding sterile chemotherapy.
- Inventory control: Must be able to demonstrate ability to perform inventory management including PAR levels and pulling outdates.
- Purchasing: Must demonstrate competency in back filling for the pharmacy buyer by showing proficiency in working with the Cardinal Ordering and Receiving functions, managing purchases of secondary wholesalers, purchasing and ordering supplies from Supply Chain services or Sharp Central Pharmacy services and manage the inventory to prevent stock outs.
- Pyxis technology management: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the use of the ADC (i.e., pyxis) by being able to perform the following but not limited to stocking and removing meds, perform RX check, pull override reports, work the stock out reports, and work on standard deviation reports.
- Quality assurance: Must actively demonstrate the ability to show process improvement such as proactively identifying potential medication safety improvement opportunities such as look alike, sound alike medication storage and packaging issues, delivery/storage/security related issues, inventory management issues, etc. Consistently prioritizes and accomplishes fill list related workload in a timely manner that promotes smooth pharmacy operations and the medication preparation delivery processes and sustains a high level of accuracy by consistently selecting, filling, ordering and restocking the correct medication, dosage, and strength.
- Regulatory compliance: Must be competent to perform a unit inspection including but not limited to checking temperature logging, cassette filling and pulling old and discharged patient medications, ensuring the medication rooms are kept clean and orderly.
