Parexel's MedCom Scientific Services is seeking a remote Scientific Team Lead /Global Publications Lead with Oncology (solid tumor) experience.

Knowledge and Experience:
10 years of extensive Medcom Agency experience and minimum 1 year management experience of a scientific team.
In-depth Oncology (Solid tumor) publications experience.
Broad experience in scientific and editorial management and delivery of the key offerings and services within MedCom.
Experience of reviewing, developing, and implementing editorial processes and effective working.
Possess a positive approach to change that encourages innovation and creativity.
Be willing to challenge and devise new approaches to communication techniques.
Has experience managing teams of 3-6 team members and 2-3 accounts.
Will be performing 70% account management and delivery and 30% team development including development of and coaching of scientific writers.
Advanced degree in the Life Sciences, Pharmacy, or Medicine (e.g., masters, PhD, MD).
Proficient use of the English language.
Must feel comfortable working remotely.
Job Purpose:
Act as primary scientific client contact, provide strategic oversight, and lead/manage assigned accounts and team(s).
Anticipate and troubleshoot potential account and client issues.
Global operational leadership and resource, administration, and line management of geographically diverse account teams to ensure profitable and quality service delivery.
Short-, mid-, and long-term project and resource management and business planning.
Develop and champion scientific and editorial quality standards and best practices within teams.
Act as a role model and provide coaching/mentorship and feedback to team members.
Provide strategic input to, and scientific budgeting of, business opportunities and deliverables in conjunction with Business Development and Account Management.
Participate in proposal development and client pitches for business winning.
Comprehensive understanding of the organization's service offerings and processes.
Key Accountabilities:
Client Relationship Management and Leadership
Act as primary scientific client contact, provide strategic oversight, and lead/manage assigned accounts and team(s).
Act as scientific account and team lead ensuring that client objectives and goals (i.e., understand the product, market, competitors, etc.) are understood and translated into all activities undertaken within the team.
Identify and implement solutions to potential or emerging client and internal issues in conjunction with Senior Scientific Specialist, Scientific Strategy Advisor, Program and Account Management.
Seek opportunities to develop follow-on business, and develop and endeavor to secure NBAs in conjunction with Account Management.
Team and Operational Leadership
Lead all scientific account meetings and assign projects/programs to team members. Undertake day-to-day interface with client, ensure quality development and review of deliverables and accountability for delivery teams.
Implement Parexel's processes to ensure quality development.
Proactively participate in the account team meetings, as required, to review client needs, resource/skill requirements, and team structure.
Global day-to-day operational leadership and management of assigned scientific services team(s) to ensure client-focused, profitable, and timely delivery of all projects and programs to the highest standards.
Analyze data and reports to actively manage responsibilities against key department metrics, in particular revenue burn, utilization, quality delivery, profitability, and NBAs.
Maintain a positive, results-oriented work environment, building partnerships and modeling teamwork, communicating to the team in an open, balanced, and objective manner.
Support Director/VP in implementing vision, goals, and objectives for Scientific Services.
Cascade communication within the team through team meetings, providing department/business updates, and monitoring and engagement/morale of team members.
Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, and feedback and act as role model to team members.
Proactively participate in Scientific Management meetings and MedCom meetings and initiatives.
Proactively lead identified cross-SBU and MedCom initiatives, as required.
Develop and champion implementation of, and ensure compliance to, best practice guidelines and SOPs.
Develop effective working relationships with Business Development, Account Management, and other departmental Managers/Directors within MedCom and Parexel to ensure business objectives are achieved.
Act as a change advocate and effectively manage change within teams and across MedCom, as required.
Actively encourage global thinking at all levels, facilitating cross-site discussions and maintaining sensitivity to cultural and site-specific issues at all times.
Work closely with other Scientific Team Leads/Senior Scientific Specialists/Director(s) to develop and communicate Best Working Practices and QC and optimize efficiencies, continually reviewing working practices within the team, encouraging brainstorming of new ideas, and ensuring consistent and effective implementation.
Business Development and Planning
Support Business Development and Account Management:
Provide strategic input to the development of proposals and pitch presentations.
Participate in client pitch presentations.
Provide/identify appropriate scientific expertise to support proposal/pitch development.
Undertake/oversee accurate scientific/editorial budgeting.
Actively support and leverage business opportunities within existing and/or new accounts with client and industry contacts in collaboration with Account Management and Business Development teams.
Lead the set-up of new scientific accounts and major programs/projects, as appropriate.
Resource and Staff Management
Undertake short-, mid-, and long-term workload/project planning to identify global resourcing and recruitment needs; liaise with other Scientific Team Leads/Directors to resolve as appropriate.
Undertake the full range of duties relevant to the leadership, management, and development of team(s) to ensure team performance meets and/or exceeds the business needs.
Participate in formal staff review processes, e.g., performance and salary reviews, to incorporate standards and timescales.
Proactively manage performance of line reports: set and monitor performance and development objectives, undertake timely performance reviews and quarterly follow-ups, and address under-performance promptly and effectively.
Proactively manage staff utilization (based on skill set and resource); conduct training gap analyses and develop plans, in conjunction with individual, to address personnel skill needs.
Proactively liaise with Independent Contract (IC) Manager to secure optimal Freelance Writer/Editor support on assigned accounts.
Assess and develop strategies to meet productivity and quality objectives.
Develop mechanisms for monitoring progress and for intervention and problem-solving with key stakeholders.
Assume ownership of relevant recruitment process, including driving the process and developing recommendations for new approaches/solutions.
Financial
Oversee efficient scientific budgeting and support financial monitoring to maximize editorial profitability of assigned accounts.
Review editorial efficiency and profitability metrics and make recommendations for improvements.
In conjunction with account management, communicate to account team project profitability achievements.
Skills:
Well-developed motivational and leadership qualities demonstrated within a scientific and editorial context.
Solid scientific background, a depth and breadth of writing and editorial experience.
Strong client-focused approach to work, ability to relate to key client personnel and KOL/Faculty in an assertive and professional manner, confident handling of difficult scenarios or client dissatisfaction.
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to negotiate with other departments and resolve conflicts.
Effective project and resource management; proven ability to handle a broad range of clients and/or accounts.
Proactive, advanced problem-solving approach to team-specific and company-wide issues.
Proven ability to train and develop people and undertake skills assessment, identifying business needs, creating development plans to address gaps, and resolving performance issues promptly and effectively.
Aptitude for financial monitoring and efficiency assessment of projects.
