Job Summary:
Under general supervision, performs echocardiograph procedures and prepares study for interpretation by cardiologist. Reviews data and may confer with the appropriate medical personnel. Reviews medical record to identify significant medical history. Supports the philosophy and complies with policies and procedures of the organization at the Cardiology Department.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Upholds Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws.
- Performs diagnostic studies to include 2-D, M-Mode, Doppler, color flow mapping, Stress, transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiograms. Records and maintains a daily log and files of studies performed. Aids in preparation of records for interpretation, collection, and distribution of diagnostic data and reports. Ensures equipment is operational and available for procedures. Participates in developing and conducting in-service programs and patient care classes.
- Explains examination, test and medical procedures and their purpose. Reviews, explains and clarifies physician orders with patient or parent. Lifts patients, observes machine monitors, performs routine diagnostic tests, and assists physicians and medical staff with procedures, diagnostic examinations and treatments.
- Reads and assesses diagnostic test abnormalities. Consults with physician concerning test results and alerts physicians to positive test results or test abnormalities. Issues reports on findings and prepares lab worksheets.
- Ensures equipment is available for procedures and examinations. Maintains and orders supplies, inventories and replenishes equipment and supplies.
- Participates in developing and conducting in-service programs and patient care classes. Answers telephones and takes messages. Coordinates department activities with other departments.
- Assumes other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.
Pay Grade 26
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
- Minimum one year in echocardiography with Doppler.
- Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.
Education
- Graduate of an accredited echocardiography program or equivalent on-the-job training.
License, Certification, Registration
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Certificate from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers OR Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to demonstrate working knowledge of echocardiograph equipment and procedures.
- Ability to maneuver echocardiograph equipment which may exceed 500 lbs.
- Must be able to communicate in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.
