Position Summary:
Care for patients under the direction of physicians and registered nurse.
Excellence In Practice:
- Completes assignments timely and accurately.
- Understands and follows orders.
- Able to locate physician preference cards and pull for cases appropriately.
- Demonstrates knowledge of: medications and doses; safely draws up medications and labels them for use on sterile field; expected outcome and adverse reaction.
- Effective communication skills: informs nursing staff and physicians of any changes that may impact surgical procedures.
- Critical thinking skills: recognizes changes in a surgical situation; can respond quickly and appropriately; shows ability in creating and maintaining a sterile field using principles of aseptic technique; initiates corrective action when sterility is broken, able to perform sponge, sharps and instrument counts accurately and take action if count is not correct.
- Time management: able to prioritize and multitask, flexible to the patient and departmental needs without interference to patient care.
- Understands principles behind cleaning between cases, room turnover, “Monday” cleaning and terminal cleaning.
- Seeks guidance and direction as necessary.
- Shows ability to operate in a safe manner for which it is intended and report faulty equipment to appropriate personnel.
Essential Job Requirements:
Education: LPN with an active license in ND or a graduate from a surgical technologist program.
Experience: On the job training available.
License Requirements: Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) from the ND Board of Nursing.
Position requires on call shifts, including rotating weekends and holidays.
