Summary: Provides and monitors safe, cost-effective patient care in accordance with RN scope of practice and adherence to the organization's nursing policy and procedures. Thorough knowledge of infection control and aseptic techniques.

Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED required. Graduate of an accredited school of Registered Nursing program. A.A., Diploma, B.S.N. preferred. Six months to one-year experience and/or training preferred in Ambulatory Care. Moderate sedation experience is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations: Current California RN License, current AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association, ACLS Certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - American Heart Association. AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is preferred.
Essential Functions:
- Review patient medical record prior to visit to ensure chart readiness for physician.
- Interview patients, take vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess patient condition; record vital signs in patient chart. Manage admission care of multiple patients at a time.
- Safely transports patients to and from procedure room. Sets up medications and materials before start of procedure.
- Constantly monitoring of patients status and provide ongoing information to physician and other care team members.
- Initiates, maintains, and completes peri-procedure documentation. Accurately records patient responses, status, teaching, medications, and treatments.
- Inventories and checks drugs, sterile supplies, and equipment specific to patient care in GI Lab.
- Respond to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol.
- Receives patients in PACU after procedure. Assesses, evaluates, and continuously monitors patients during recovery and preparation for discharge. Provides discharge instructions to patient and/or caregiver. Ensures patients are safely escorted to car.
- Cleans and maintains all GI Lab equipment (i.e., gurney, recliner, beds) after each use.
- Manages patients requiring hemodynamic monitoring, administering, and titration of IV sedation and reversal drugs. Knowledge of actions and usual dosages of the commonly used drugs.
- Performs daily crash cart and emergency equipment checks.
- Functions in the RN scope of practice and Riverside Medical Clinic policies and procedures.
- Responsible for ensuring all expired sample medications and patient supplies are discarded upon expiration date.
- Maintains current California RN licensure, BLS, and ACLS certification.
