I. Major Responsibilities:
- Coordinates clinical practice and deployment of resources to ensure implementation of respiratory care processes, adherence to standards, and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Identifies issues in respiratory care delivery and seeks solutions for problems.
- Maintains safe operation of respiratory care equipment by adhering to hospital safety regulations.
- Works with the Manager and Director to develop and maintain departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
- Accomplishes respiratory care human resource objectives by providing and coordinating orientation and required training.
- Designs, organizes, implements, and evaluates orientation, in-service, and continuing education programs for staff.
- Participates in strategic planning, implementation, evaluation, and revision of systems to support and enhance the competence, autonomy, and accountability of the respiratory care staff.
- Provides input to the preparation of the annual capital and operating budgets related to staffing and equipment needs.
- Develops expertise of respiratory care staff with patients and patient populations.
- Develops curricula, instructional materials, tests, and evaluation tools.
- Ensures staff has current licensure and credentials.
- Coordinates student clinical experiences with faculty from respiratory care schools.
- Keeps current on best practice standards of respiratory care practice and education.
- Assists Director, Manager, and other respiratory care staff with projects and activities.
- Fosters a collaborative professional relationship with physicians, nursing, and all hospital disciplines.
II. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:
- Licensure by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Respiratory Therapist.
- Minimum of a two-year Associate's Degree in Respiratory Care.
- Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the NBRC.
- Current BLS certification (AHA).
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree.
- NRP certification.
Experience/Skill:
Required:
- Two years of experience in a supervisory/leadership role.
- Thorough knowledge of the specialized field of respiratory care.
- Must have solid technical knowledge of operation of various respiratory equipment modalities.
- Respects and maintains the confidentiality of patient-related information.
- Possesses strong time management skills.
- Ability to write accurate and concise clinical documents.
- Ability to collect and analyze data using statistical methods.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to problem-solve.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the department.
- Ability to work in multiple computer platforms simultaneously.
Preferred:
- Minimum of three to five years' experience in critical and acute care.
- PICU/NICU experience strongly preferred.
Unless certification, licensure, or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:
Work is considered sedentary. Position requires work indoors in a patient care and office environment.
