Job Description - Tech Assistant, Breast Imaging (3310755)
The Radiology Technical Assistant works as a fundamental part of the Radiology healthcare team. Works under the direct supervision of the Daily Resource Technologist and Sr. Technical Assistant. The Technical Assistant is responsible for assisting the technologists as instructed during routine procedures such as lifting, transporting, and directing patients in and out of the Breast Imaging suite. Assists with scheduling Imaging exams and answering phone calls. The Technical Assistant reports directly to the technical or operations manager.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works with the Daily Resource Technologist to assist in efficient daily operations and patient workflow.
- Scheduling and rescheduling of department patients as required.
- Assist at the Front Desk for patient check-in process.
- Provides safe and compassionate care to patients of all ages.
- Follows proper Patient Identification Process.
- Follows Hospital and Departmental Policies including HIPAA and Hand Hygiene.
- Appropriately assists patients identified as a falls risk.
- Exercises sound independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative under pressure and in a variety of situations.
- Ability to locate emergency equipment, code carts and understands importance of calling the Code Team vs. the Rapid Response Team.
- Monitors and replenishes the department’s stock and linen supplies.
- Prepares and cleans the equipment and room before/after each patient to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Assists technologists with patient positioning, moving and lifting during exams in the department.
- Expedites patient transport between departments when necessary.
- Maintains professional behavior and communications within the department and throughout the hospital.
- Responsible for follow up on messages received on departmental phone located in the Diagnostic tech work area.
Communicates and informs team members of subsequent work shifts of any pending exams, issues or follow up information pertinent to maintaining patient and departmental workflow.
- Achieves positive relationships with patients, families, visitors and other healthcare providers and contributes to a favorable public image of the radiology department and hospital.
- Ability to utilize EPIC, phone and paging systems to assist at the front desk.
- Facilitates expediting patient’s visits without compromising patient care.
- Assists with lab specimen transport during all procedures.
- Stocking of supplies as needed.
- Attends and participates in department staff meetings.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
- Demonstrates understanding of Universal precautions, aseptic technique, hand hygiene and maintains cleanliness of exam rooms and equipment.
- Provides safe patient care.
- Ability to use Epic, telephone and paging systems.
- Interpersonal skills allowing effective communication with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress.
- Communicates in a professional, courteous, clear and concise manner.
- Adheres to safety standards, established policies, procedures and clinical practice guidelines related to Radiology operations.
- Physically capable of performing all duties related to this position.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent customer service and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask and efficiently time manage.
High school diploma or GED required. Preferred: 1 year of previous health care experience, but not required.
