The Financial Analyst is a member of the central Financial Planning & Analysis team in Scottsdale, Arizona, supporting division operational managers to prepare monthly forecasts, facilitate budget updates, prepare monthly and quarterly reports, and perform ad-hoc analysis. Therefore, the Financial Analyst must understand basic accounting and finance concepts, possess intermediate to advanced Excel skills, possess abilities to influence operational managers, and be comfortable collaborating in person and remotely across geographic locations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in preparation of the annual plan and monthly forecast process including delivery of P&L and cash flow projections.
- Analyze and provide explanations for variances between actuals, forecast and the annual plan.
- Provide reporting & analysis including but not limited to, home gross margins, home sales, starts, and deliveries, community pricing and performance analysis, and internal cost and overhead analysis.
- Facilitate quarterly budget reviews with divisional operating managers (i.e., Land Acquisition, Community Development, Operations, etc.).
- Maintain Selling, General & Administrative expense budgets.
- Partner with the VP of Finance to effectively communicate and present quarterly financial results to senior and corporate leadership.
- Satisfy ad-hoc analyses and reporting as needed for division or operational teams.
- Seek opportunities to improve operational finance efficiency.
- Partner with Central Accounting team and VP of Finance on transactions or accounting treatments that could impact projected results.
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting, and/or a Master of Business Administration.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of professional Accounting or Finance experience in a complex business environment.
- Homebuilding industry experience or similar background is beneficial.
- Practical experience with profitability analysis, variance & trend analysis, IRR, cash flow, and other common financial metrics.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
- Prior experience with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, OneStream, Business Objects and PowerBi a significant plus.
- Possess effective communication and analytical skills, demonstrate attention to detail, and be intellectually curious.
- Ability to work well in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and exhibit flexibility to manage and balance multiple priorities or assignments to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Ability to present complex financial concepts in simple terms to division and corporate managers.
- Experience improving efficiency and value-add of financial processes, including influencing managers and partners across geographic locations.
- Ability to travel quarterly for 1-3 business days may be required.
FUNCTIONAL
- Reports to a Finance Supervisor or Finance Manager.
- Collaborates with division Vice Presidents of Finance, Corporate Accounting, and Operational Managers.
