JOB TITLE: Sr. Engineering Consultant
This position will provide Engineering study and support to Sinopec Tech Houston Center (STHC) in a multi-disciplinary consulting group, through reviewing and evaluating the current oil & gas and Renewable Energy technology status and development trend, field and well-level practice as observed in the oilfields and CCUS/Hydrogen/Geothermal projects in North America. Essential functions require candidate to screen, evaluate, document, track and disseminate the latest technology progress and field application & practices in above areas and make recommendations to Sinopec for further evaluation, and assist Sinopec management in planning and updating its E&P and Energy Transition R&D strategy. The position will also support the oil & gas and renewables operation of Sinopec upstream and downstream assets across the Americas and China. Candidate will have 10+ years’ experience working in both R&D and field within the energy industry in the US and/or international locations; Candidate will also act as a mentor to local teams on Engineering related topics.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:- Will provide Oilfield Chemistry expertise in drilling fluid and completion/fracturing fluid, acid-stimulation, produced water management, reservoir/wellbore scaling treatment, energized fluids etc.
- Will provide Chemical Engineering support to EOR, including CO2 flooding, gas injection, polymer flooding, as well as energy transition area including CCS/CCUS, Geothermal, Hydrogen and Energy storage.
- Will work closely with Geologists and Petroleum Engineers in an integrated team to provide dedicated technical support to the field development and well operations in conventional/unconventional assets, including but not limited to project planning, execution, evaluation, optimizing, and technical review, feedback etc.
- Will conduct research in new technology, field studies, and current trends in E&P.
- Will be responsible for tracking and analyzing the latest technology, and writing clear in-depth technical reports in Chinese for Sinopec technology Group.
- Will be responsible for managing and conducting R&D and industrial projects for both conventional and unconventional resources.
- Will be conducting technical exchanges, networking through industry alliances, JIP consortiums with external partners.
- Will provide technical advice and consulting for Sinopec advanced E&P and research projects in related fields.
- Will collaborate with related teams to produce solid developmental plans for related new technologies.
- Will communicate technical data through preparation and presentation of clear, concise, and persuasive reports.
- Will be a strategic thinker capable of introducing and obtaining innovative and sound solutions.
- Must complete and deliver projects timely within constraints of budget and scope of project requirements.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:- Strong and proven experience and understanding in applications of upstream oil and gas Oilfield chemistry and Chemical Engineering theories, principles and operation practices.
- Candidates with strong industrial background is a plus, with adequate understanding of horizontal drilling, hydraulic fracturing, and production management in unconventional shale developments.
- Candidates with industrial background in CCS/CCUS, geothermal, hydrogen-related projects is a plus.
- Knowledge of scientific research, including processes for research and development, and the transition from technology development to implementation.
- Proven experience in the oil and gas industry with a thorough knowledge to develop new technology to meet the Company’s strategic plans.
- Strong understanding of technology development processes, market adoption strategies, communication standards, and methodologies to implement new technologies.
- Leadership and innovative ability, excellent verbal and written communication, and teamwork skills, accomplishment of high quality and high standard work.
- Must have project management skills and be able to prepare relevant proposals.
- Must have the ability to handle multi-projects seamlessly and professionally.
- Strong ability to meet deadlines and manage time efficiently while multi-tasking.
- High degree of integrity and self-discipline to complete objectives on time.
- Ability to handle a variety of confidential IP, relating to the company.
- Ability to persevere through complicated situations and be self-motivated.
- Must always present oneself in a business professional manner.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, and EXPERIENCE:- M.S. or Ph.D. Degree in Chemical Engineering/chemistry, or related technical field is required, from an accredited university.
- Must have a minimum of 10+ year’s senior level working experience in Geoscience and/or Petroleum Engineering in the oil and gas industry.
- Must have proven experience in E&P of oil and gas resources.
- Must have project management experience working on related industrial projects.
- The candidate having fluency in Mandarin Chinese is preferred due to the technical writing nature of this particular position and direct communications with headquarters office based in Beijing, China.
- Some domestic and international travel will be required (normally <15% per year).
- Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License with acceptable driving record or have the ability to obtain one.
- Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
