Responsibilities
Assess patient/family health problems and resources, taking a leadership role in the development, implementation and outcomes evaluation of a plan for nursing care. Provides professional nursing care and interventions to acutely ill adult patient populations via the mobile stroke program. Position requires providing service to one or more age groups including young adults through geriatric patients in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served. Position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of the organization. It is expected that the employee demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values. The employee will support the organization's strategic plan and the goals and direction of the hospital wide performance improvement plan.
BESTU Responsibilities
- Ability to collaborate effectively with EMS, telemedicine physician and/or neuroendovascular specialist.
- Demonstrate accurate clinical neuro assessment skills and maintains a current working knowledge of stroke care.
- Maintain IV TPA therapy protocols.
- Act as an educator to professional groups and EMS. Promotes BNI and STJHMC as the leader in stroke care.
- Assists in collecting stroke data, participate in ongoing quality improvement process.
- Must complete Barrow Emergency Vehicle Driver Training Course and any subsequent drivers training. Must demonstrate competency in operating BESTU Vehicle and any annual competency training. Must pass Dignity Health Driver's Authorization process and follow internal policies related to staff operating a vehicle. May be subject to annual review of driving record.
- Work environment includes pre-hospital care setting and various weather conditions.
- Work requires nights, holidays, weekends, public relations visits and presentations.
- Must be able to assist in the safe movement of the patient on a stretcher, loading into an ambulance and physically maneuver and work effectively in confines of the Mobile Stroke Unit Vehicle.
- Perform Point of Care Testing. Maintain standard through required 6 month and annual testing.
- Must possess ability to independently calculate weight based dosage and administer TPA in the pre-hospital environment.

Certifications:
American Heart Association Basic Life Support
AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support within 60 days of hire or transfer
AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 60 days of hire or transfer
ATCN or TNCC required
Preferred:
BSN
Professional certification in area of specialty
Two years recent ED experience
