Position Overview:
Reporting to the Manager of Laboratory Services, the Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist (Quality) is an integral member of our leadership team who collaborates with team members and staff to support the Quality Management System and to ensure the laboratory quality standards of Accreditation Canada are met.
Responsibilities:
- Supports and monitors the Laboratory Quality Management System.
- In collaboration with the leadership team, establish the annual quality goals, objectives and key performance indicators. Support the Continuous Quality Improvement of the Laboratory.
- Coordinates the execution of quality initiatives within the various components of the laboratory path of workflow and quality system essentials.
- Conducting and coordinate audits, and compiling audit reports and follow up on corrective actions.
- Supports the identification, collection, and analysis of relevant information relating to quality improvement, accreditation, and competency assessment.
- Reviews all laboratory-related incident reports and their follow up. Monitor trends and provide appropriate action plans.
- Actively support the investigation of occurrences and recommend corrective action and conduct follow-ups to ensure effectiveness of resolution.
- Actively support the Lab leadership and other team members to ensure compliance with accreditation standards.
- In collaboration with other lab leaders, performs risk assessment as related to safety and quality.
- Provides support to validation and implementation of new methods and analyzers/equipment, and special projects.
- Oversees and chairs the Laboratory Quality Management Committee.
- Liaises with the MOHLTC on annual license renewal and license application of new tests.
- Engagement and communication with internal and external stakeholders e.g. other lab leaders, clinical colleagues, and AC Diagnostics.
- Actively participate in the planning and monitoring of quality education of staff and students.
- Collaborates and support the Charge MLA in the oversight of the Specimen Management/Procurement team.
- Other duties as assigned/required.
Qualifications:
- CMLTO Registration required.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the Core Lab setting required.
- ART certification or equivalent is an asset.
- Quality Management Certificate or equivalent required.
- IQMH Assessor Training an asset.
- Excellent understanding of the laboratory operation and processes.
- In-depth experience and knowledge of the Meditech Laboratory Information System preferred.
- A collegial, collaborative team player that works well with colleagues at different levels with an open mindset.
- Demonstrated excellent comprehension of the Quality Management System. Strong skills and knowledge in continuous quality improvement, and applicable accreditation standards and regulations.
- Strong analytical, problem solving and system thinking skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency with MS office (Word, Excel) required. MS Power point and Visio (process mapping) are definite assets.
- Effective time management, organizational, multi-tasking, and project management skills.
- Strong commitment to recent continuing education.
- Must be able to function effectively under pressure in a fast paced work environment.
- Excellent performance and attendance record required.
