Position Description :
- General knowledge of various medical procedures, views, and equipment.
- Basic understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
- Competent and validated in basic Medical Assisting skills:
- Administering injections
- Taking vital signs
- Performing testing including but not limited to COVID-19, HIV and A1C testing using various collection methods.
- Ability to interpret positive, negative and inconclusive results and enter said results with great attention to detail into EMR systems.
- Ability to interpret a variety of data and instructions, furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Demonstrate proficiency in medication handling, dosage and administration with minimal oversight.
- Possess written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people.
- Well-developed time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
- General knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) and electronic health record (EHR).
- Work independently, as well as be part of the team, including accomplishing multiple tasks in an environment with interruptions.
- Identify, evaluate and resolve standard problems by selecting appropriate solutions from established options.
- Build collaborative relationships with peers and other healthcare providers to achieve departmental and corporate objectives.
- Dispose of biological waste materials and related hazardous materials in accordance with applicable laws and best practices by always using equipment safety devices and appropriate disposal containers (such as needle safety devices and sharps containers).
- Prepare, handle and maintain records, and perform related clinical and administrative services in observance of HIPAA laws and patient confidentiality best practices.
- Perform administrative duties such as preparation of reports, the storage and maintenance of laboratory and office supplies.
- Perform other tasks that are reasonable and consistent with the position as assigned.
Education/Certification:
- HS Diploma: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) or equivalent education/experience.
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assisting program consistent with the requirements for Medical Assistants as specified by the Medical Board of California.
- Vocational/Technical/Trade Certificate is also acceptable.
- Medical Assistant Certification through the state and/or completion of Certification within the first 90 days of employment - employment will be contingent on MA Certification completion.
- BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider - American Heart Association.
Additional qualifications:
- This is a mobile role; frequent travel to and between job sites is required.
- Ability to be scheduled consistent hours is dependent upon your ability to work in various locations surrounding the Bay Area, specifically San Francisco, San Mateo, Alameda Counties.
- Bi-lingual strongly preferred.
- To remain active status, the position requires a minimum of three shifts per week.
- Prior phlebotomy and specimen collection experience strongly preferred.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Experience working in a team environment.
- Computer proficiency required, including prior experience with electronic medical record systems.
- Ability to work daytime hours; flexibility may be required to meet staffing needs.
- Working days are variable and offered seven (7) days a week.
- Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.
- Familiar with or able to become familiar with computer software programs such as G-Suite, PrimaryBio, O365 & Electronic Medical Records systems.
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Day shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekend availability
License/Certification:
- BLS Certification (Preferred)
- Board Certified Medical Assistant (Preferred)
Physical Demands/Working Environment:
- Standing or sitting for long periods of time may be necessary.
- Some lifting (up to 40 pounds) may be necessary.
- Driving or sitting up to 50% of the time is required.
